Convincing people that their fave pop culture is revolutionary has been a widespread grift for a long time now.

I think it became a thing with the rise of gangster rap and the burying of radical political rap music.

It just shows how ideologically bankrupt & thirsty for mass approval even respected critics & academics are.

If you weren't paying attention then, you wouldn't believe how much scholarly work & pop culture criticism from the last decade positioned Nicki Minaj as representing some kind of revolutionary, progressive force.
I find it vexing when folks attribute Nicki Minaj‘s behavior to either her being broke, or her wanting to have her pedophile, brother and rapist husband, fully pardoned. While I do not doubt that those are factors. THIS is just who she is.

The Bucks window was loaded with horrible luck, bad timing, cruel injuries and atrocious drafting. Giannis still brought a title here, and with even one lucky break, I’m convinced it would’ve been two.

It’s ending sad and sour, but it was amazing to live in Milwaukee through all of it.

There’s a line in Action Family where Chris Elliott, as a hard-boiled detective wearing a wig, flips a coin at a guy on the street and says “Here’s a quarter. Go to college.” My friend and I haven’t stopped laughing for 35 years about that.

If people studied liberation or revolutionary movements across the globe they’d know that depending on “leaders” is not the move. This is the individualism that we have to get out of.
I don't agree that saying "our leaders aren't going to do anything" is doomerism. Minnesota's elected officials didn't make it hard for ICE/CBP. The people did. And the people are the ONLY ones capable of doing the rest. Relying on leaders got us here. That's not doomerism it's taking responsibility

This is the mindset of fascists, broke ppl who defend billionaires, White supremacists, incel misogynists & even artist stans. It's all they have to cope with the reality of being mediocre in a society that tells them that domination of others is the ultimate power & freedom.
Tim Pool: “I’m not licking the boot. It’s my boot. I voted for it. I’m the one stomping…”

This mindset is genuinely pathetic.

It’s an alpha fantasy: watching state violence and imagining you’re exercising power rather than the one submitting to it.

He has a constituency. It is just not many average voters. Spend some time with political operatives/journos/pols who are over 60 in DC. In private, they complain about AOC and “wokeness” as much as Trump/MAGA. (And to be fair, plenty of elite Dems 40-60 have these same sentiments.)
Yeah, it make absolutely no sense to interview him about the "future of the party" unless you just agree with what you know he's going to say. He has no constituency and no novel ideas.
