It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

I get so many spam calls that I thought I was getting a relentless spammer calling over and over and I answered it super-aggressively and it turned out to be my daughter calling from her work phone telling me I didn't need to pick her up because her friend was there. LMAO

this is your fucking job that you're being paid to do. Imagine asking your plumber to stop your dishwasher from flooding your apartment and he's like "well what exactly do you want me to do?" The specifics are your part dog idk!

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

Overall, like THE KILLER, this is a film I wish I liked more than I do, but you gotta be honest with your feelings, and this is a solid 7 for me.

SORRY EVERYBODY
schmanthonyp.bsky.social
I especially liked the camerawork in the hospital climax here, and the sequence where they're trying to get babies out of windows while under fire was the only time I cared about any, like, people here.
schmanthonyp.bsky.social
Luckily, most of the movie still IS exciting gun battles so it's still fairly entertaining, even if it's not quite the phantasmagoric trauma of BULLET IN THE HEAD's action setpieces.
schmanthonyp.bsky.social
Compared to BULLET, the characters here are quite thin and it doesn't really establish any sort of meaningful emotional throughline, but it still TRIES, so at 2:08 it becomes sort of a slow, tough hang for basically any segment where there isn't exciting gun battles.

HARD BOILED (1992, 7/10) - a cool little cop thriller; pales in comparison to the overwhelming masterpiece that is BULLET IN THE HEAD but still has a lot of similar trademark lively camerawork and gun battles that make it a fairly entertaining watch.
schmanthonyp.bsky.social
Yeah, I never got around to the rest of his action work because I didn't love THE KILLER either time i saw it, but I was overwhelmed by BULLET IN THE HEAD yesterday so I wanted to keep it rolling and finally check it off

Recording had to be rescheduled so instead let's keep this WOO WEEKEND rolling with a first-time viewing of John Woo's 1992 classic...

HARD BOILED

I don’t think it’s good that we have an entire class of media elites who believe that people getting mad at them means they’re doing a good job, but identifying that makes me wonder if it’s actually better to not get mad at them and deprive them of what they want.

Saw The Conjuring for the first time and it was pretty good but it was very funny to me that a Puritan witch killed her husband and then hanged herself and another Puritan took care to note that her time of death was 3:07am

Just about everyone vulnerable has been told to stay inside. There are literally hundreds of trained emergency response people on the streets of the 1.8 sq mile neighborhood. ICE is driving through alleys looking for anyone who’s brown

There was a guy called in the 60s called John Cura who took 250k 'tele-snaps', up to 80s shots per programme, which he sold to actors/directors. In some cases, his shots are all that remain of lost TV episodes, including Doctor Who.

🧵Thread. I collect photos that people took of their TV screens (in the days before video) because they wanted to capture a historical moment, or at least something that meant something to them.

thank god the red zone channel started running commercials. when it was commercial-free i'd get to 7:30 p.m., look at how i'd spent my day, and realize i'd burned through an entire sunday without growing or developing at all as a consumer. and if i'm not a consumer i'm nothing at all
