Happy #PortfolioDay everyone! I'm Maalus, an artist & designer with a weakness for fantasy and science fiction.

Currently offering a "Dreams Come True" discount rate for people whose creative projects need a little extra help getting to that final stage!

I saw a lot of chatter about this & now I know why. The original post is such bullshit! If you don’t value art (or books, or porn) enough to want to support its creators, then the art is wasted on you.
I'd like you who know me to imagine how reading this made me feel.

And if you support this...person...I'm blocking you faster than you can say "Rumpelstiltskin".

Some great tips here for authors who need to do their own cover art.

Hint: you absolutely do not need AI and should never use it.
You know, speaking to stock art, the argument that it's not cost effective to produce cover art/layout/design without AI work just doesn't hold water. The internet is full of cover design guides/blog posts from pros, and even paid stock art isn't expensive if you're amortizing across covers. ->

The first edition of this book is fascinating and informative so the second edition is sure to be as well.

If you're interested in pigments and inks it's a worthy addition to your reference material.
For those who missed it, I'm crowdfunding for the revised edition of this handbook of mine. We've reached the funding goal but there are still rewards and add-ons to be had... #bookarts

You want to read something beautiful?

Thanks to @chucktingle.bsky.social for this. It touched a nerve in the very best way.
i have posted before that i think you are an artist before you ever make a painting or song or book. i understand it is a unique perspective and that is okay, but i am thinking on it again after seeing post from buckaroo @scalzi.com specifically how it relates to my perspective on grief and death
Proposition: You become a writer the moment you write, a musician the moment you make music, a painter the moment you paint, etc. You become an artist the moment you find your own voice as a writer/musician/painter/etc.

Yes? No?

The same sculpture on a tomb and on a hearse. A funerary standard…? 🤔 I’m afraid so — these aren’t the only copies of this figure I’ve come across 😉

As an agnostic who long ago lost patience with organized religion seeing things like this still makes me smile.
The pagan-friendly Anglican church in my small, rural English village would have no problems with Episcopalians! Here, for example, is our vicar blessing a pagan Obby Oss (performed by my husband) before a Beltane procession: our annual pagan/Christian/all-faiths-and-no-faith May Day celebration.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔
