I’ve put some thought into how to introduce myself on a new platform. I’ll go with three categories.

1. Activism - I’ll talk about / repost things relating to:

•trade union campaigns
•social + racial + economic justice
•disability pride
•climate emergency
•political exasperation

We didn’t need all these biographical Willy Wonka movies about who he is as a person. In the older versions, he’s obviously God or the Devil. You’re supposed to spend the entire story wondering which one and gradually become worried they’re the same being

Absolutely baffled by the unwelcome information, as I’m trying to get home after a long day, that my city’s bus network has put my debit card on a ‘denial list’ and won’t let me pay for my bus fare using it???

There are sufficient funds and I’ve used the card elsewhere today, so… I’m at a loss.

a load-bearing component of “the magic of Christmas” is the invisible domestic labor of moms

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

The #lexember feed is relevant again!
Oh, yay: @gliese1337.bsky.social has made a feed for #Lexember posts! bsky.app/profile/did:... Lexember is the best time of the year: an annual challenge for conlangers to coin (and post) one new lexeme each day throughout December. I’ve pinned this and can’t wait for 1 Dec!

If this was happening in any other sector of the economy there would be uproar (and rightly so).

The phrase "managed decline" comes to mind.
Some 10,000 jobs could be lost each year at UK universities as leaders continue to cut staff numbers to tackle ongoing financial problems, new analysis suggests. Helen Packer reports

Today marks the end of our strike ballot over the 2025/26 pay offer.

While we don't know the results yet I'd just like to say thank you to all reps, officers, activists and members of our branch and beyond in making the campaign happen and getting the vote out!

This is the data that everyone in our sector needs to see.
This is what our unions should be shouting from the rooftops.
HE workers thousands of pounds worse off than we were 17 years ago.
And here we are! Literally every spine point is paying less in real terms than it was back in 2008. Spine point 5 (now replaced by the real living wage) is down by about 3.4%. By spine point 10, we're down over 10%. By spine point 23, over 20%, ultimately reaching a 22.1% reduction. 3/3

I was moved to tears with some of the powerful speeches and it serves as a reminder of how much space we have lost, and that must be placed at the foot of those in leadership that have failed our trans community. Let this be a reminder to us all to double down on our commitment to the cause.

Whilst I am here I attended the Trans Day of Remembrance vigil at Edinburgh Uni.

Unless I'm missing something, further to the policy announcement this week a refugee who arrived irregularly could face a 30 year wait for settlement....
The UK government's proposals on changes to settlement (indefinite leave to remain) rules have now been published in a consultation paper, ahead of a statement from the Home Secretary to MPs shortly www.gov.uk/government/c...
Earned settlement
The government is consulting on how the current settlement system should be reformed and how those reforms should be implemented.

Even though the return envelope has prepaid 2nd class postage, I’m not risking it: my vote for Andrea Egan for Unison General Secretary got a 1st class stamp after work and is in a postal bag right now!

Today, I attended an event as part of the Campus Voices for Palestine speaking tour.

And I cried.

What a brilliant collection of speakers on scholasticide, colonialism, apartheid, complicity, and genocide.

protect libraries at all costs
One girl said “it doesn’t matter if you ban a book because everyone can find that information online” and then I blew their minds by talking about how your search history can be monitored and sold to the government without your permission, but your library borrowing history requires a warrant.
