socialism is an inherently optimistic philosophy imo. through cooperation, solidarity, and the power of our united labors can we build a better, more generous, kinder, more jacked future, where all can thrive. never really understood the types who don't have that optimism in them.

It’s a history of water development in the western US, published 1986 or so. Not as relevant to today’s water issues but lays the ground floor of why water is so fucked up, especially California

Same for towns that grew up around inherently coastal industries - turns out the answer to "why do those silly people live so close to the water" is often "...you can't fish on dry land."
