You can be a responsible, ethical, rigorous journalist who acknowledges that the system as constructed creates & rewards people like Nuzzi & Lizza, or you can furiously fan yourself then plunge your head in the sand
i think all the time about the discourse around the oscars slap. i forget who it was who said this but their takeaway was "listen, these are three highly specific and extremely strange individuals colliding at once in a singular event. there is nothing to be learned or extrapolated here"

This is disgusting.

Ronald Reagan refused to acknowledge the AIDS crisis. Even refused to help his "friend from the Hollywood days" Rock Hudson.

George W. Bush waited 7 years to recognize World AIDS Day.

And now we are back to a POS GOP POTUS who will ignore it.

RFK Jr. is neither a joke nor a well-intentioned proponent of public health with a few kooky beliefs. He's a menace, evil even by the standards of Trump's inner circle, and the failure of the political press to convey this is maddening
I actually think it’s okay to take a ridiculous scandal seriously when it involves a wingnut conspiracy theorist in charge of things like vaccine policy and pandemic preparedness

Sorry to be a wet blanket 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve sold more books than John Fetterman.
"The Barnes and Noble in York—where Fetterman was born and raised—had sold zero copies. The Barnes and Noble in Philadelphia had sold two copies. An independent store in Pittsburgh and an independent store in Philadelphia each told me they weren’t stocking Unfettered" defector.com/john-fetterm...

Watching fully adult romantasy readers brigade a trans girl who was a little mean about the books they like as if she's a war criminal sure takes me back, man.

?? It’s rats leaving a burning building, looking for the next pile of trash to snuggle under.

Y’all love trying to force a redemption arc on the most heinous of people and that’s part of why we’re in this moment in time in the first place
I'd be really curious if someone better versed in feminist theory wrote about what's happening on the right. Because between Greene, Mace, and Bobert, we've got this bloc forming of women who seem tired of serving a patriarchy of sex criminals. And their rhetoric is starting to lean that direction.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I was called a traitor by a man that I fought for 6 years for. I gave him my loyalty for free. I've never owed him anything. Let me tell you what a traitor is -- a traitor is an American that serves foreign countries."

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

I have seen dementia up close, y'all. I've been saying it for years ...
I had to stop and listen to make sure this wasn't an edit or a goof. No, he is up there saying those things.
Trump: And you know, we got rid of the drip drip water, we call it the drip drip, where it drip drips out of the sink, states with tremendous water, so much water they have nothing but problems getting rid. They had restrictions on water. It comes down from heaven, right?

who could have foreseen this?

oh wait, right right right, just literally everyone who understands how corporations in this country work 🙃
KARL: Tariffs have been removed from some food items. How soon do we expect prices on those goods will go down?

HASSETT: The prices for those goods weren't necessarily going up just because of tariffs

KARL: So they might not go down?

And shout out to you, too if you’re still in bed. This shit is hard. Talk to your friends and neighbors. They’re going though it too, which is both terrifying and comforting.
