In this vein, I love buying physical (CDs, Blu-ray/DVDs, books, etc) because I know there's someone designing how it's seen on the outside, what people will see when they open it, and so much more. They're designing an experience, and I appreciate that.
y'know what's weird? as a job, I enjoy the idea of marketing and advertising, of selling things and making a product appealing

but so many ads in practice are so grating, so sanded-down that I totally understand the frustration with them, the willingness to pay extra to go ad-free

AI is NOT inevitable. Keep not using it. Uninstall Copilot from your computer. Refuse to use programs bogged down with it. Complain loudly about it when they shove it into the programs you use. We can starve the slop machines.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

I saw this at the Yubari Fantastic Film Festival in 2023, and it's just jaw-dropping and funny in so many ways.

Highly recommend seeing it if it comes to your area.
we can milk it a second time too!

I know there are better positions out there, but I think I'm entirely burnt out on being in school at this point.

And I know I shouldn't force myself to continue if I'm just going to be unhappy with myself, but visa concerns still haunt me.
Now it's being an ALT.
Maybe if I recognized it really wasn't for me despite how well I may have performed in the past, I might've sought out a better environment to stay in education, but I stayed an additional year and got hit with reality the hard way.

Stubborn to a fault, I am. (2/2)

two Ruri loc points:

-literally, are you a middle-schooler?, but "what're you, 12?" is the standard English for that.

-literally, should I downgrade you to "girl" status?, but "another species" gets the idea across less confusingly (mild misogyny-by-way-of-awkwardness)

I'd rather work than clean, but my unwillingness to do more than a passing unclutter is starting to get in the way of working, so I guess I'm just an all-around loser tonight. 💀

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

🧵⬇️
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

People who think translation is just "replacing words" (because that is all a machine translation can do) clearly don't understand how language works. Who wants to read a book by an author who doesn't know how language works?

Anyway, my sister Lily Valour is amazing at what she does, and I hope you'll like and share!

One of the most difficult things for me to recognize is when I need to move on from something, especially if it just isn't working for me.

I had to drop out of a physics track in undergrad when content stopped making sense, and my grades suffered because I was afraid to admit my struggles. (1/2)

Me: *writes something, shows a draft*

Teacher: This is nice! Is it a true story?

Me: Only half of it. 😅
