We went to see a lovely children’s musical in Culver City today but it took us 1hr45m to drive the 15 miles (as the crow flies, 20 miles distance) home and the whole family agreed: never again.

20 Dec 2025 @rikiwilchins.bsky.social -- American Academy of Pediatrics which represents 67k pediatricians pushes back hard on against new Trump anti-care proposal: "misconstrues the current medical consensus...fails to reflect the realities of pediatric care...These rules help no one..."
Trump's push to end transgender care for young people opposed by pediatricians
Doctors and children's hospitals say nothing in the evidence has changed to justify the Trump administration's efforts to ban gender-affirming care for teens and tweens.

not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

I present to you my child’s second book. I think the only thing that could improve it is maybe a “pet store” sign on the first page. Anyway DC, call us, she’s ready for a gig.

There's lots of good Star Trek but Deep Space 9 is the best Star Trek.
And it didn't just happen once! Star Trek in the nineties also had a trans-coded character everyone respected and gendered correctly!

For readers who are about to lose care, I have been told that the Trans Youth Emergency Project is helping the families of trans youth contingency plan to access that care.

The reason they're so focused on trans teens is that people who transition younger typically blend into society better. To the extent that they're willing to tolerate our existence in society at all, they'd rather we be easily identified by our appearance/voices/etc.
Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

To all the young people in New York and across our country who count on gender-affirming care:

I won't let this administration come for you, your doctors, or your lifesaving health care.

Your health care is still legal and protected.

I'll always fight for you.

This illegal proposal is designed to eliminate health care for trans youth by threatening to destroy hospitals that provide that care — care that’s validated by physicians & provided with parent support.

They want to erase trans people from existence. That’s always been the plan. We won’t let them.

Under the proposed rule issued by the Trump Administration today, any Medicare- or Medicaid-participating hospital would be barred from providing gender-affirming care to *any child*, even if the care is not paid for by Medicare or Medicaid.

You can enlist in the military at 17 but can’t get gender affirming care until 19. Make it make sense.

I would actually argue that some companies today would cover something like that, and that there are many more jobs today that you’d think of as good white-collar jobs. The difference is that the people at the margins from previous eras have been forgotten by history, despite being vast in number
It was better in the post-war era. More workers had union protection. Companies didn't do mass lay-offs of white-collar workers every time there was an economic downturn. I'm 49. My mom dated someone who worked for Cray who had his 28-day stay at Hazelden covered three times. Who would do that now?
