Minneapolitan. Knitter. Queer. Leftist. Here to poke my head to see what's all the fuss until some nut job takes this one down too. The algorithm sucks. I prefer the fediverse. #BlackLivesMatter #LandBack #Queer #TransLivesMatter #EndCapitalism #ADHD
I just watched Robin and the Hoods. Predictable storyline but such a creative way to tell this story. Perfect. No notes. #LetterboxFriday #LastFourWatched

First they came for the immigrants…
DHS employees entered our store this afternoon and served us a Notice of Inspection, demanding copies of I9 forms for each employee.

In 27 years as shopkeepers, we have never been subjected to this type of investigation.

Living in a very rural area, I’m learning that building relationships looks different.

I wrote a card to my rural postal carrier who I think is Hmong with a message of solidarity and my phone number.

He left me a note in return and texted me his number.

It's a south Minneapolis bubble. Northsiders are showing up. And meeting up. Not relying on the chats to connect and organize. The big Northside chat has broken up into small ones, where neighbors meet neighbors, and connect through in-person connections. Not many Northsiders in this bubble.
those of us on bluesky are a bubble. we can say we all need to show up, but what is the DFL doing to make caucuses safe for vulnerable people? we can’t go virtual. so what’s to prevent ICE from showing up?

feels like we’re gonna have very white caucuses and it’s all just gonna benefit angie craig
The DFL seats won't be of much value unless we all go to our caucuses next month and then do the work to rebuild the party and the party platform from the inside.
It is long, slow, tedious, and usually boring work, but it needs to be done.

Last year my precinct caucus was more representative than I’d ever seen—the Somali and Spanish language interpreters (engaged by Ilhan Omar, Jason Chavez, & more) were very much needed.

I anticipate a huge backsliding this year. Will benefit All of Mpls candidates

Heard from my sis-in-law (in FL) today. National news isn't reporting how we are all showing up for our neighbors. This is Minneapolis.
Blowing whistles works. ICE was at 40th and Victory Memorial pulled to the side after they talked to Robbinsdale Police and holding down my horn and whistle for 5 min brought out 10-15 neighbors nearly all with whistles.

Multiple people have been taken this morning already in Northeast and we don’t have the same capacity on the streets that we’ve had throughout the week. Please come out and help us today and bring a friend we need more people outside so we can protect our neighbors.

To say a bit what people’s lives are like: both of my kids’ schools have chats that are connected to the parents and neighbors patrolling school grounds observing for ICE. Every a.m. other parents monitor them in case we need to quickly go to the school to help prevent a child from being kidnapped.

Minnesota Chamber of Commerce when you try to pass paid family leave so workers can stay home with their newborns for a bit: THIS WILL BE THE END OF DEMOCRACY

Minnesota Chamber when citizens are getting kidnapped and beaten at their jobs by agents of the Federal Government: [Silence]
For decades, executives at big companies in Minnesota have been part of the state’s civic backbone — serving on nonprofit boards, weighing in on workforce issues, joining task forces focused on solving major social issues. Which is why the quiet right now is so striking.
Minnesota’s corporate silence on ICE surge
Major companies in Minnesota have been largely mum on the immigration enforcement operation in the state.

This. We are uniting here against fascism and staying calm, loving all our neighbors. All of them.
It seems a lot of people think they know Minneapolis now.
Our flaws. Our faults.

I hope my neighbors join me in reclaiming the narrative.
