#corn account
Velvet Corn Soup from Chiang's Gourmet
I've never had this so obviously I had to try it
...wow
That texture
So thick
There's technically corn in it but it's mostly an egg drop soup but with a texture resembling... I want to say paste but that's wrong, it's more gummy... Snot...

my feeling is that if we are going to let AI loose we should start simple and low-risk, like criminal profiling, autonomous driving and medical advice before we let it handle complex tasks
It’s crazy the sheer number of supposedly rational people who were like “ok but it’s good at health stuff” early on.
When AI was added to a tool for sinus surgery: “Cerebrospinal fluid leaked from one patient’s nose. In another… a surgeon mistakenly punctured the base of a patient’s skull. In two other cases, patients suffered strokes after a major artery was accidentally injured”

I am an avowed fan of tres leches cake.

So the other day, I was wondering exactly how many leches is the limit. There are many alternate 'milks'. We might have as many as VEINTE leches in a supermarket. That's so many leches.

Here's what we find.

Went to my favorite cashier at Costco
Had the card ready before approaching
Had all the barcodes up and facing him (both big stuff in the cart and small stuff on the belt)
It was glorious to watch him go
Just doing my part to keep him on the top of the speed board

The grimness of US history should encourage us. Yes, people used to send lynching postcards. And other people saw that, worked towards building a more just society anyway, and succeeded beyond anyone's wildest imagination. There's more work to be done. What's our excuse for choosing despair instead?
I understand and appreciate the fact that for some it is genuinely uncomfortable and distracting to think about how grim US history is. yes, that is strategically relevant, and no, I wouldn't put "did you know people used to send lynching photos to each other as postcards?" on a recruitment flyer

Have seen many variations of this & broadly agree—but the part that struck me in the moment wasn’t “this is a microcosm for how America sucks” — it was “this is a microcosm for trying to behave democratically & respectfully of one another in a complex, evolving situation with things we can't know.”
i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory
