Friends, Claudette Colvin—the 15-year-old who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in March 1955 & joined the federal case against bus segregation that went to the Supreme Court — died today at age 86. But there are lots of myths and mis-impressions about her. A short corrective thread:

No Matter How Many Chili Cook-Offs I Win, Everyone Still Sees Me As ‘That School Shooter’s Mom’
In these scary and uncertain times, community is more important than ever. And nothing brings a community together like a good old-fashioned chili cook-off! Whether you’re rich or poor, liberal or con...

Someone mentioned it earlier as I was losing my mind at how inanely anti-Christian this regime really is but the people in the regime literally operate on the concept of empathy being a sin.
I mean it’s not surprising he won’t grieve with a supporter, he refused to do it for literally Charlie Kirk’s wife, but it sucks. It sucks. I keep thinking of that little candle ceremony Joe Biden did for COVID deaths, or even GWB with his paintings, and I yearn for just any capacity for pathos.
Q: Renee Nicole Good's father, who is a big supporter of yours, is heartbroken because your administration so quickly said she's a domestic terrorist.

Trump: Well, they can be on the other side, he might be on my side—

Q: He is on your side

Trump: That's great. But her actions were pretty tough

Went to Avatar 3 in a packed theater when the Doomsday trailer played and some guy just audibly sighed and said "God I'm so sick of superhero movies" and yeah, I predict this movie will massively underperform.
Actually I'm pretty sure they're teaser trailers

It's impossible to comply with these goons, they tell her to go, she starts to go....and then the guy runs up and smashes the window and they all surround her and drag her out. Criminals doing carjackings are more organized than this
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

This should have been career ending, as it would be for most editors. This is almost surely at the top of list of editorial malpractice.
I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

Still never really knew who the Dogbert guy was (RIP Dogbert), I was more the kid who struggled and failed to do the Magic Eye picture thing when we got the comics section (and reading the Garfield and Peanuts panels, obviously).

Bari really is bad at everything she does.

My working hypothesis is that the NYT exists first and foremost for the parochial obsessions and hang-ups of its (very) insular management and editors.
Thank you NYT for this interminable and meandering essay about how Democrats don’t understand that life is about more than owning possessions, citing sources like Compact and JD Vance. Nothing I love more than being lectured about the rural mystique by a Vanity Fair writer for like 8000 words

YouTube just made it so you can no longer sort your search of videos chronologically. This is so bigger, more lucrative promoted videos always remain on top of your search.

No consumer wants this, but monopoly power means consumers have no alternative. Modern tech in a nutshell.

My favorite critics always have a handful of "brother, what the fuck are you talking about?" level opinions, real passion that comes out of left field for absolute dogwater, that they are not only willing but able to defend to the point where they almost win you over.
