Hi! You can expect this profile to be full of art (others' and some of my own), writing (my #D&D campaign write-up of #Waterdeep #DragonHeist and #DungeonOfTheMadMage), shouting at the world, hopefully some photos (bunnies, planes, D&D shenanigans), and quotes (D&D shenanigans). Welcome!

Folks who wrote that 'AI autism diagnosis' paper in @nature.com don't give a shit what it actually says; all they care is they scored a high-value pub for their CVs. They should be rewarded with deep scrutiny of every future claim.
One of the purposes of this is, obviously, to completely alienate people from their intellectual and creative labor. When "write an article" becomes "push the big red GIMME SLOP button" you're gonna have less pride and investment in the outcome.

Hey @nature.com, have you got an explanation for how the hell THIS happened? & especially why you accepted a paper with such a bizarre piece of genAI slop in it?!
& more to the point, why we should take you seriously at all going forward?

what i love is that in 1990 judas priest got brought to trial over the claim that subliminal messages in the recording "better by you better than me" caused two suicides and now in 2025 openai seems to be generating a suicide a week with its superliminal messages and the US government is funding it

also if you see that annoying thumbnail we've had to put on all our posts, supporting the Vagina Museum allows us to educate and celebrate in a safe space that the bsky mods and their weird censorship can't touch. which also matters :) www.gofundme.com/f/btscc2

Let's try this again... Glad tidings we bring to you and your quim! We are fundraising this festive period. Earlier this year, the future looked bleak for the Vagina Museum. But we're still here, and there's many reasons for you to become a vital part of our future... www.gofundme.com/f/btscc2

The amount of AI slop in the stores for holidays is disheartening.

I think what I miss the most is being able to get jigsaw puzzles to do with my family, but there is NO way I am going to pay to stare at AI art and put more effort into putting the puzzle together than was spent making the "art"

My first Christmas read this year was Honeymoon For One and was the perfect combination of warm and cosy, whilst still dealing with the very real issues we all often face when it comes to relationships.

My full review is on goodreads and Storygraph, but just know I highly recommend this one.

What might be my favourite fossil has been just published by Kiat et al. 2025. Years ago I saw a pic of this Anchiornis specimen in nat geo article and I audibly gasped.preserving not only the feathers but also the original patterns as well. I made this drawing on the spot. Maybe its time to do v2.0

Going through it with Mum's move right now. It's a stressful time. I will not be online a lot for, err, the next few weeks maybe. But I'm OK. Just really, really busy. Cannot allow the spoons to be procrastinating online. Sleep is more important, sorry ;P

And this isn’t me blowing my own tits, it’s BASIC GOOD CARE. Those small pet shop cages are barbaric, imagine spending your whole life in that tiny prison. A pet is a luxury or better yet, a family member, if you can’t afford good care, get a rock or a plant or something.

I mention the price of the vets visit because if my posts about Odin and Tanuki make you want a hamster, the vet costs need to be considered! Odin’s 100x50x50 cage was £140 GBP plus the bedding, the food, the wheel, the hides, they are not cheap pets when cared for ethically
Tanuki has a lump on her side and today I took to the vets to get it looked at. It’s too small for a biopsy but doesn’t seem to be causing her any distress, thankfully! I’ve been given medication to try for 2 weeks. This vet visit cost me £110 but this is what you sign up for with a pet

It would be extremely cool if a bunch of people called payment processors over Black Friday weekend to ask why they're telling people what they can and can't buy with their own money. This holiday season, give the gift of calling payment processors over Black Friday weekend
Spoke with a source who told me the call volume is so high, a call center for both Mastercard & Visa is bringing out pizza and ice cream so agents don’t quite amid the rush. Long waits are causing dropped calls.

What you’re doing is working. Call MC & Visa.

Please try to tell your faves you enjoy their work. A lot of people are bold enough to be openly negative or mean while positive people react quietly. Lurking is ofc okay but I think it’s good to try and be openly encouraging from time to time🥹❤️
Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Apparently I’m on Wrecks that Changed the World (Episode 4) on PBS this evening, talking about HMS Prince of Wales, Pearl Harbor etc. I wasn’t even sure they’d ever made the programme (I did a day of interviews at FAAM between lockdowns and never heard any more from them)

To be sure, there can be (and are!) bad actors in bad faith using A.I. for bad, impure purposes. No disagreement there. But your anti-A.I. stance does not justify or excuse the decision to deliberately misuse something that is intended to help disabled people. Abusing alt text will have real harm.
Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images.

The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

In usual BRC Conference style, the most boring sounding talk is the most interesting and accessible for me (more physics than medical XD). I even followed the technical slide that remained unexplained. Would happily learn more about super microimaging within the body using optical fibres!
