General reminder of the words of proud son of Virginia, Major-General George H Thomas. The "Rock of Chickamauga". Who, unlike Lee, stayed loyal to the Union.

Post-war he had views on 'Lost Cause' and the damage it would do to America, unchecked.

A “counterfeit varnish of patriotism” he called it.

I like the analysis of the original poem that Ozymandias, being Ramesses II, is actually still very well known, whereas Percy has been relegated to being the husband of the vastly more famous Mary Shelley.

I didn't think it captured naval tactics at all until the battle where everybody went all David Beatty and wandered off in another direction without telling me, leaving my crappy little destroyer to take on a whole squadron on its own...

Being “of the same nature as” rather than “of like nature to” mainstream pop…
We need a modern day Council of Nicaea, but instead of doing it for “the Roman Bible”, it needs to be “the genres that record companies use on streaming services”.

My child who is less into church and usually chooses not to attend, has agreed with great gusto to play the part of Herod in this year’s pageant. Win? Worry? Either way the whole family is now looking forward to the service a bit more.

The cat sofas are so good that your cat will eventually give up trying to ignore it and use it. Even though the cat knows it was purchased for them.

Trust me. I have two cats that tried not to use ours and failed. They both use it now.
I make unique cat sofas, lap mats for cats, and foot stools (for humans but cats will use them as cat thrones)

I think you both need to define what you mean as side-on before we can answer here. Looking down from above: The feet HAVE to be placed with one closer to the enemy than the other. Unless the purpose of the guy behind you is to turn you into a tripod with his shield.
Sabreurs and epeeists fight side-on as well, for the same general reason of target reduction/protection. #pedantry
