Popping in to Bluesky on this fine morning to say that "fountain pen drama" that so many people are referencing relates to Ferris Wheel Press (FWP). Countless people asked for comments on their JKR collab, founder ignored all questions wrt the LGBTQIA+ community.

Regardless of how many researchers highlight the cultural trends against "AI" data centers, & the increasingly widepread public awareness of the unequal economic & environmental harms of these systems, a lot of tech-pilled ppl will only pay attention once it shows up somewhere like WIRED.

So here:
The Data Center Resistance Has Arrived
A new report finds that local opposition to data centers skyrocketed in the second quarter of this year.

it was a treasure to be a disabled person in the world while Alice Wong was in it. she was a fierce voice for disabled people everywhere, and the loss of her is... it's a lot.

while i never knew her, i read a lot of her essays and work. please mask, and continue to think of accessibility always <3

Imagine if you gave every person on Earth $122,000. Then imagine them, every single living human, lining up to hand that wad of cash over to Elon Musk. That’s how much a trillion dollars is.

A lot of people are going to walk away from the Ghislaine Maxwell coverage with the impression that our prison system isn’t punitive enough but I’d say it highlights how most everyone else is treated with *deliberate* cruelty.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

I'd also point out (gently) that the language of failure applied to the only two women nominated by a major US party is inherently problematic.
Personally, I think the idea that all women should be measured by the failures of Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris is actually a sort of sexist doomerism.

Book mail! Actually, this arrived on pub day but I wasn't home to receive it. I was so sorry to miss the book launch party! But now I'm home (at least, for a little while) so I'm eager to read! Vanessa's writing is always wonderful. 💜

Literally every time I've needed customer service help and it's a company that starts you off with a chatbot, I end up needing a human being. Every time.

Like, if it was a simple enough problem your water-guzzling, mass-polluting, trash wannabe tamagotchi could fix, I would've just done it myself 🤷‍♀️

One of the great heartbreaks of being in the disability community is how often we lose people and how many of our most powerful voices have gone silent. We must live our lives loudly and joyously in their honor and remember that our very existence is resistance.
Oh no I just heard we lost Alice. This is terribly sad. She was an incredible, talented, powerful voice of the disability community. She stood strong for herself and for all of us. She will be missed immensely.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

Mom was flawed and her struggle with addiction almost killed me, yet I love her so much and so fiercely. My life is absent any closure she could’ve given me. And then I see stuff like this and I am so repulsed. I would never to this to the love I have for her. It’s the only thing I have left of her.

Dang, hard disagree. The best papers to write and read are works of art, not merely a list of data and statements.

Don’t let LLMs take this away too, for gods sake.
I honestly think we would all be a lot more productive if papers were bullet points with plots.
