The other part that people keep missing is that the grader of the essay is NOT a professor. She's a graduate student instructor. A trans one. One of the most vulnerable academia positions I can imagine.

She has basically no protection or recourse. (I don't think OU grad students are unionized?)
This is extremely bad and worrisome for obvious reasons, but it's worth pointing out that this was obviously the student's goal

She knowingly wrote a garbage essay for her trans prof's class and when she obviously got a terrible grade stirred up a media storm

This was clearly the intended outcome
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

The OU Graduate Student Senate formally condemned the university Thursday for placing a graduate instructor on leave after a student publicly contested receiving a failing grade on an essay that cited the Bible.

if you're an OU grad, please take a moment to email the CAS Dean to find his fucking spine and/or balls and stand up for his college's GA.

you can also copy the graduate college dean, Randy Hewes: hewes @ ou .edu

Oklahoma University has placed a grad student instructor on admin leave for failing a psychology paper on gender for citing *the Bible* as a source of empirical evidence.

In response, OU has placed on instructor on admin leave citing, get this, the FIRST AMENDMENT.

Universities are cooked.

As my repost before this, important correction:
the instructor is a GRAD STUDENT. Without the backing of a GA union (afaik, OU does not have a recognized GA union), as many voices as possible need to advocate for the instructor. She did exactly what OU asked of her, and is being punished for that.
There is a well coordinated national campaign targeting a single trans professor at Oklahoma University to get her fired. It's part of a broader campaign to push trans people out of public life entirely. It was never about sports.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Someone on here compared AI produced material as "digital asbestos " which in a few decades' time we will have to work out how to eradicate from the fabric of research.
From my own academic research, even pre LLMs there was a huge danger of zombie factoids that begin in a respectable publication by mistake and then get reprinted for decades because no one is backtracing to the original source. Once bad info gets into the system it can take years to clear it out.
I've seen numerous examples of this in recent days - we're at a point where some reporters are using LLMs as a source and not even remotely properly factchecking, but also where LLM generated material is making its way into other material and being unknowingly reproduced by others.

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!
Wow. New CBS poll finds majority (55%) supports the *general goal* of deportations, but a bigger majority (56%) dislikes how Trump is carrying them out. And 63% want due process.

Again, we need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration, as I've argued:
