NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.
After Trump Officials Cut Food Aid to Kenya, Children Starved to Death

My mom trusts GPS more than her own eyes. We were looking for an estate sale at 40 Elm. It was sending us to the street centroid. We're driving past #40: there is a sign and a sale! She INSISTS we bypass it for the app's pin (a parking lot).

The sellers of AI want the same de-skilled blind trust.

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

404 Media previously obtained internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) emails revealing the agency’s facial recognition app, called Mobile Fortify, and catalogued social media videos showing agents scanning people’s faces to verify their citizenship.

This is what it's all about:

WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.

The most pertinent part of this story, to me, is that even someone who hasn’t substantially coded in years could almost immediately discover that the AI coding assistance products (like all Big AI LLM products) are designed to create emotional dependence in their users right from the start.
Wrote a long personal essay about an unexpected side project and what working with modern AI systems actually felt like.

No advice, no hot takes. Just a snapshot from the middle of it.

If I were a Member of Congress, I would not have voted with Republicans to censure Rashida Tlaib (like 22 House Dems did).

But I sure would have already introduced a resolution to censure this bigot:
GOP Rep. Randy Fine says he's "not afraid" of being called "Islamophobic" and that, instead of making peace with Palestinians, "destroy them first."

This was during a hearing on "Judea and Samaria"—a term used to erase Palestinian ties to what's actually known as the West Bank.

A Barbie doll costs about $10. If you were one of these mysterious people buying your kids 37 dolls .... annually? ..... and you cut back to one, that would leave you with $360 or $30 a month toward your newly doubled health insurance premiums.

Oops! I forgot all the pencil savings: $31.
