And people thought the libertarian element of the GOP had waned
It’s monsters all the way down.

How we do pensions and retirement income in this country is predicated on a few assumptions, one of which is that old people have minimal housing costs and/or security of tenure. It's not happening anymore, and will get worse.

100%. The vanguard already has an element of this, but Farage will always have to appeal to relatively mainstream voters, and the interests of his bloc and donors in a way they are uninterested in.
i suspect that if Farage remains the leader when it comes to the next general election, people to the right of him will consider it the same
it's interesting that the intellectual wing of the New Right basically sees Trump as incapable of bringing about the national revolution they were hoping for

There was a rumoured letter in family law that read:

"Dear Sirs,

Fuck off.

Stronger letter to follow.

Yours faithfully"

Learing of the Three Cue system is like the opposite of an Info Hazard
Oh. Oh my god. Oh my god???? Oh my GOD.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Sun up the level of rot in British police in one paragraph:

Think the bigger problem with Bond is there are a bunch of commercial reasons (not least the now owner) why it can't represent the real geopolitical world, but a spy film that doesn't at least nod to it just looks a bit ridiculous, and worse, pointless.

"Support for the actions and politics of Donald Trump is a sign of the decline of Toryism within the Conservative Party - Discuss."
Not resiling from this one iota in spite of the feeding frenzy, the resignations, and the talk of a billion dollar law suit of the last few days. If those on the right in this country seriously think that lining up with Donald Trump against the BBC is a good call, then I say good luck with that.
The attention the Tory party in the media and in the Commons are giving to this story is a reflection of just how far off the deep-end both have gone in recent times. Sure, they have a long-term vested interest in trying to undermine faith in the Beeb. But this is such a non-issue for most voters.

But really, the real loser will be the British people.
Opposition party that is not that far ahead, is deeply polarising, keeps adding *new* polarising positions to its platform - lose
Crap government that keeps being crap - lose
Rejected and unrepentant former government - lose
Smaller parties in the government’s bloc - lose

The fascinating thing that's missing is the sense that this is a strategic choice. There are circumstances where you accept that unemployment is the cost of other things you are trying to achieve - but it doesn't feel like Lab are doing that coherently.
I really don't think people appreciate just how bad Reeves's first year as Chancellor actually was
A surprisingly bad set of labour market stats this morning. The story I was prepared for was "some weakening, but the shake out from the early part of the year is behind us". But it's worse than that - payroll jobs falling again, unemployment now up at 5%.

Here is our PN

Worse than that - he actually believes it.
You may have missed this gem yesterday. From which we learn that:

1. Betting shops are really good for the mental health of isolated people.
2. Most drug-takers are not a problem.
3. Kids put tuppence in slot machines in the hope of getting rich.
4. Farage probably has a gambling industry donor.

It feels telling about our broader approach to business that the lauded "British Bill Gates" was seemingly just vaporware with a high pressure sales funnel and dodgy accounting.

Kind of fascinated by the implication from this advert that there is a cohort of people who'd be on the fence about seeing The Hunger Games on stage until they learn that John Malkovich appears via screen.

Another one - and important to remember when people talk about mental health in the past vs today. The reality is back then, people just died.

Also, if you think safeguarding is bad in *youth* wings, just wait until you see the average wider party.

Ultimately, parties have to accept that youth wings will attract a volatile combination of the bullyable and the bullies and spend active time defusing that.
Like I'm sorry but the average 20 year old wants to hang out with other 20 year olds, not old people. This is a societally universal phenomenon that has to be adjusted to, not "why won't people just"-ed
November 10, 2025 at 12:31 PM
Ah, but at least we saved the Conservative Party and kept Farage away from power, and got immigration down, right?
This looks rather meaningful.

Think the two things I would do to be an extremist on the nation's information diet, beyond axing X, would be banning rolling news and blocking smart TVs from accessing YouTube.
Has ITV's News coverage gotten worse since they ditched ITV News? No.

So would BBC News 24 being axed in favour of some actual coverage of Parliament, devolved and local government be a bad thing?

A fun other one is the International Football Association Board
One exciting thing about the BBC Board is it is one of the few places where each constituent kingdom of the UK gets an equal vote - power-sharing in action! Oh, and residents of England? Your representative is Sir Robbie Gibb <ducks for cover>
Seeing so many posts about who “Starmer and Nandy” will appoint as director general. Easy mistake but the government does not appoint the director general! The BBC board, whose members are appointed for rolling terms by the culture secretary, appoints the director general.

twitter being bought and turned into a propaganda machine for fascism, which is directly pumped into every journalist in the world's brain, is one of the worst things to happen in the last few years. we might not survive it.
I'm guessing the BBC 'scandal' has been big on X this week as this was the first I had heard of it...

Good to see some actual accountability from the BBC over this.
HMK is also not wearing a "formal tuxedo", because (1) a tuxedo is a semi-formal outfit and (2) what he is wearing is not a tuxedo, it is a tailcoat THE VERY THING A TUXEDO WAS INVENTED NOT TO BE.
