There have been reports of ICE activity around the Seattle area including Shoreline, Tukwila, 135th and Aurora, and more.

You can learn more about how whistles have been used in communities to inhibit these efforts in this post by @dansinker.com: dansinker.com/posts/2025-1...

Oh, hi, it’s funny sob sob and also one of the scenarios inspiring my dissertation research.
The CDC says that vaccines cause autism. Medical professionals say that they do not. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

THE GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN CAUCUS IS BACK, MOTHERFUCKERS
I think it’s now safe to call this race.

Progressive urban planner Katie Wilson defeats centrist incumbent Bruce Harrell and will become Seattle’s next mayor.
Seattle's mayor race update:

Katie Wilson's lead grows to 1,346 votes over and incumbent corporate-Democrat Bruce Harrell.

Kate Wilson won 61.23% of the 6,121 ballots counted today.

Overall total:

Katie Wilson 50.08% 137,217
Bruce Harrell 49.59% 135,871
Write-in 0.33% 908

Another election update: progressive candidates Shilpa Prem and Jay Arnold have TAKEN THE LEAD in their races for the Kirkland City Council after previously being behind. So much for that reactionary anti-growth backlash in Kirkland.

SEATTLE!!!

We’ve now taken the lead by 91 votes! 🤯 This thing is certainly not over! Over 1,000 ballots have been challenged, so if you haven’t tracked your ballot yet get on it! Our trusty volunteers have been working hard to "cure" ballots so they count! We're so close!

If you haven't checked to make sure your vote counted, you need to do it now - the race for Seattle's future depends on it!

Your ballot might be sick. Cure it, please. We can't bear to watch it suffer.

On the whole, there were bright spots for urbanist candidates all around the region, with major gains seen in Burien, Redmond, and Tacoma. There was also some backsliding in places like Sammamish and Bainbridge Island.

In Bellevue, Conrad Lee, who has been in office since the mid-1990s, is set to be defeated by Naren Briar despite bringing out the big guns about how single family zoning is "under attack."

And more pro-housing Vishal Bhargava is also set to keep his seat.

Friends, you have three hours to get those ballots to a ballot box. Make it so.
Less than 20% of registered voters across WA had returned their ballots as of 5 p.m. Monday. That puts the state on track for record low turnout. Data shows returns lagging even in places with high-profile contests for offices like county executive and mayor. Voters can return ballots until 8 p.m.

I always think about how rarely I see people do this when I'm giving an awkwardly emphatic little wave of gratitude (and wondering if anyone can see it).
If you let someone cut in front if you in traffic and they don’t do the little hand wave as thanks, you should be legally allowed to ram their car.

Fobazi’s article about vocational awe was one of the first things I read in my master’s program at UW, and it set the tone for the type of librarian I would become and in turn influence how I mentor the next generation of librarians. Please donate if you’re able. This field owes so much to her.
Fobazi is currently in the ICU and could use your support. Apologies to those I haven’t been able to reach out to yet. You can message me for more info and I will be posting updates to GoFundMe. Please share, send healing thoughts, prayers, etc. ❤️ -Elena

I've been seeing signs for city council elections popping up so tonight I'm reading through the websites of everyone who has filed...it's deeply disappointing (and frightening) to see how many are CEOs of AI companies.

They’re going to try to make you feel insane for opposing this war. They’ll ignore protests and downplay any opposition. They’ll try to strongarm you into submission.

They did it with Iraq and they’ll do it again.

And then a few years later they’ll pretend they were with you all along.
