The investigation of the Ford govt cost money & the time & people who worked on it deserve to be paid just as you do for whatever is you do.
Pity it's paywalled. But not hard to figure out the gist. Will now have to go look up the story on the CBC.

Texas & Florida have passed laws essentially making it illegal for cities to create car-free spaces like bike lanes or pedestrian plazas.

That’s stupid/shortsighted, & will make their states more dangerous & less economically competitive.

Ontario, your premier thinks like those States.

Red flag.
Why Are Many States Trying to Ban Cities From Slowing Down Drivers? — Streetsblog USA
Texas could soon become the latest state to ban its cities from reclaiming lane space from drivers — and now that Trump is in office, some fear that more will follow.

I keep thinking back to this article from a couple months ago. Still one of the best things written about the whole Epstein situation to date.

Still just as relevant today as it was a couple months ago.

If u care about better cities for people in Ontario Canada, please pay attention to what Premier Ford is doing. Not only would his new bill block cities from building bike-lanes if they touch car lanes, he’s talking about imposing his own street standards & standardized official plans in EVERY city.

There's also an OLD blue-blood thing happening around the horse show. Very John Tory-esque. The other animal shows, especially the 4-H kids, have the feel of a tradition that goes way back. To when Toronto was hogtown. The slogan "the country has come to the city" is so apt.

E.g.: There was a funny moment at community council when the history of the parking lot at 1117 Dundas St W came up; the lot was created to block potential development there. Now the City/CreateTO wants to develop the lot. Meanwhile, some described the parking as being essential -- based on use.

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is underrated, and possibly unique in North America? I went yesterday and did a deeper dive than on past visits, talking to many of the vendors, going to the pens to look at the animals, sitting at communal tables and eavesdropping on conversations.

One of our biggest struggles when designing bikeways is parking demand vs removal vs safety.

We collect extensive data prior to design to ensure there is adequate parking based on actual usage.

We do counts on weekends, overnight, holidays.
There almost always is.

Parking! In the wknd Toronto Star I write about what to do with our underused parking lots & garages. New data shows lots profound emptiness. There’s more efficient & useful possibilities. City is already building some housing, but NIMBYs are protesting just as the sun rises. Ignore em & go harder.
Shawn Micallef: Let’s fix it: Toronto has more underused parking lots than you’d think. Here’s how to use them better
The subject of parking still seems to drive a lot of what happens in Toronto politics, but the underused lots around the city could be put to better use.

People say the city is getting 'too busy' and 'there's too many people' -- but there are FEWER people in most of the neighbourhoods where people are complaining.

My guess is that there are more cars per capita though.
Almost everywhere in the City of Toronto has fewer people that it did 50 years ago
