I will probably never have an experience like this again in my lifetime, so I will always treasure my summer with this family of burrowing owls. 💕🪶

The last few weeks I've been off chasing the world's largest owls (Blakiston's fish owl) in Hokkaido. These massive, muppety, eagle-sized owls spend their nights hunting fish in shallow streams in the Russian far east/China/Northern Japan.

Molt was that time of year when things became a bit embarrassing. No matter how much you'd spent on your feather suit, it eventually became shabby, and you lost all your expensive feathers so that your downy underwear became all too visible. For Mom and Dad, this state was almost unbearable.

Time for #MammalMonday with this beautiful Mum & Pup capture from Donna Nook, on the Lincolnshire coast. If you've never been it is a great venue to see the Grey Seals, from the fenced off area you are still very close to the action (long zoom not needed).

During the break at sprint dogs on the weekend, I found some birds to photograph - like this very handsome Australian wood duck, who seemed to have a strong opinion 😆

Anyway, here are some of my favourites right now but it was very hard to choose four since that's all Bluesky allows.

These little scale boys really don't need my help in finding a mate, but the way the little guy would climb onto my finger instantly and hop off when I put him next to a female*... 🥹
I love the yearly emergence of these silly Neosteingelia texana scale insects on my maple trees. ♥️🧪

Harbor seal with a big fish! This is the first time I've ever seen a harbor seal with food.

"Eat your cricket, that's a good girl", Mom cooed. "Don't forget the antennae, they are full of vitamin A. If you don't finish them, the sun won't shine tomorrow." Mo-o-om, thought Powla. The sun shines all the time, that's part of our desert's problem. And I HATE Crickets. Worse than stink bugs!
