Hey Wes, I can save you the trouble. The reason a lot of people are struggling with their mental health in the UK is it fucking sucks here. Aside from usual late-stage capitalism stuff, everything that could be cool about living here has been systematically made worse by people like you, you cunt.

This isn't a complaint, but it's weird how there is *this* Britain existing in parallel with *that* Britain. Our papers, our news media, is fucking trash. A picture of a small, grey, mean country that is only capable of hate. Then you watch, like, regular TV, or meet regular people, and it's...fine?

Political commentary has a bias towards agency: toward an idea that the 2024 general election is primarily about “things British politicians did” rather than “the invasion of Ukraine”.

Your Party running a sortition exercise for their founding conference then purging nearly 10% of those selected to attend isn't doing anything to dispell the notion that they're less a political party and more a performance art piece meant to mock the entire concept of left-wing organising

The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Labour’s latest attack on asylum seekers is cruel & counterproductive. How does it help community cohesion to hold threat of deportation over vulnerable people? We don’t need an arms race with the hard right over asylum, we need safe routes & European cooperation #bbclaurak

My perhaps controversial assessment is that when you share the propaganda of your enemies to call it out or to mock it… you’re still spreading their propaganda and maybe doing exactly what they hope you’ll do.

Something grimly predictable about the way that the conversation about 'ripoff degrees' in the UK is always about degrees that aren't rip-offs, but are instead fairly obvious 'this student has chosen something unlikely to pay off economically' rather than the short tail of crap business degrees:
Everyone needs educating in the fight over university degrees
Political confusion over the purpose of these institutions means the obvious fixes are being neglected

In addition to the normative points, I am once again tapping the sign marked 'net immigration to the UK in 2029 will still be, in relative terms, very high, and the government needs to have a position that allows it to defend what the Actually Existing UK looks like'.
Just fuck off with this. How about start the conversation by highlighting how much immigrants contribute to the UK - not least by propping up the NHS and social care system!

Also - forced volunteering is not volunteering, it's unpaid labour.

Noticing a semantic drift in “hostile environment” which serves to help no-one. It wasn’t “the vibe is anti-immigration” or “it’s hard to get a visa”, it was “the state will deputise the act of immigration enforcement to every layer of civil society”
