Conservatives will make a big deal about queer people ‘rubbing it in their faces’ but I’ve been in artist circles my entire online life, so I’ve seen every possible esoteric kink pass through my feed, often stuff I’m very much not into.

I’m just not a fucking baby about it.

Plus I can't help but feel that if we turn all our attention to the future possibility that we're gonna make fucking AM, we're ignoring how we're all getting fucked over right now by the current version of AI.

And maybe they are right, maybe they can make AGI, I don't know.

But what I do know is that a weird amount of people within AI seem oddly credulous about AI being sentient, to the point I'd worry about them having the emotional health to look after a Tamagotchi. So I don't exactly trust them.

There's a certain kind of AI doomerism that is just AI marketing for a different crowd. And this feels like that.

It's all based on the idea that AGI is both possible, and inevitable from LLMs, which is one of the ways AI companies sell themselves.

But we don't lack UBI because there's not the resources for it. We lack it because of a certain kind of arsehole doesn't want us to have it!

The whole thing treats the fact that we're in this mess because of ideologies and politics as inconsequential.

Don't think I didn't notice the little sleight of hand in the predictions too. AI *might* kill us all, but correctly aligned could lead to UBI for all?

Sounds like someone trying to launder the positive possibilities of AI to an AI-antagonistic crowd to me.

I'm not saying be complacent about AI either, since it's already being used to disastrous consequences, but there's a certain level of 'this is world ending' that just scares people into passivity.

Remember crypto, NFTs and the metaverse were supposed to be inevitable too.

It is right to be worried about the rise of AI, after all the best case scenario ends with the bubble popping and crashing the global economy, but I feel that when people predict something akin to the future from The Terminator... well they're probably trying to sell you something.

There's a lot of really load bearing 'ifs' in there.

And when you look at the company behind the video, whose own channel seems fairly obsessed with making content talking about AI in a way that strikes me as being profoundly unhelpful... I am somewhat dubious as to their agenda.

Just watched this widely-seen video and it's wild that, for something with this much money and effort behind it, the notion of 'but what if the AI sucks shit though?' is barely entertained.

Especially considering that the AI we have now sucks shit.

#58, Slipknot - The End, So Far (2022)

Thought I'd carry on with the nu-metal theme and see what Slipknot's most recent album was like. Similarly, it's alright! Was never really a fan back in the day but I've grown to appreciate the particular percussive sound they have (I like the loud noises).

#57, Papa Roach - Ego Trip (2022)

Wondered what Papa Roach sounded like these days (they were the first band whose album I bought with my own money so I have a soft spot for them), the answer is 'lots of pop hooks and they're no longer embarrassed by starting as a rap-rock band'. It's alright!
