What fascinates me is how out of being constantly advertised to a whole new aspirational career of ‘influencer’ was born. Which is an incredible summation of the world we find ourselves in. So addicted to adds we dream of being advertisers. A whole new MLM.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
Social media also stopped being ‘social media’ fairly quickly and became peer to peer advertising. Something like 7% of instagram users regularly interact with their friends or contacts on the platform...

You just have to look at how many made in chelsea types have chart topping podcasts on everything from child birth to current affairs to realise privilege really cornered the ‘trauma’ market in an undeniable way.

I drive a 2018 fiesta and will drive it until the wheels fall off. I know my place.

I have such an extraordinary ick for everyone driving around in these enormous, expensive lease cars and still driving like idiot 18yos. Like if you’re going to stare at your phone and then wave in a panic at me when you almost hit me on a zebra crossing, it should be in a battered Skoda.

I feel we need a better model. I want to support journalists and other creators, the current model of subscribe or gtfo is a problem. This isn't your problem, I know, just stating where i feel a lot of ppl's frustration comes from.

Here's where my paywall fatigue comes in: I pay for multiple outlets, but I frequently see a random article that looks interesting from some random city or town. I would like to read the article, id even pay for the article, but I'm not going to sub the newspaper for a single article.

A number of popular protein supplements contain levels of lead that could pose health concerns, according to a new report that tested samples of 23 powders and shakes.
Report Finds Lead in Naked Protein Powders and Other Popular Brands
Experts said the levels were not high enough to cause immediate harm, but raised the risk of long-term health effects.

Lads what the fuck are you talking about. Is Big Meat lining up to write a cheque for socialism
the eco doesn't stand for ecology, it stands for economic. In other words, it's a tax-the-rich party, it's a socialist, it wears socialism on its sleeve, and it says, we will stop rip-off Britain. That's one of his phrases now.
He's made a very good fist of saying, all of you, you're getting ripped off, right?
So there is a world in which he even appeals to kind of reform voters because what they care about most is being left behind, is being priced out, is the cost of living, all the rest of it. But they probably don't care about the ideologies of a green party that says no money from X, no money from Y.
So I think that's going to be the next thing for Polanski now, decide where are your green ideals now? Is it more important to just go left, get the money and enlarge?

On the News Agents, Emily explains that the Green Party doesn’t take donations from road builders, intensive farmers or meat producers, and wonders aloud if they’ll have to get past that now that they’re polling well, in order to be taken seriously. Uk journalism really is incredible

Two goals for Mikel Merino tonight in Spain’s 4-0 win against Bulgaria. Six goals for Merino in his last four World Cup qualifiers.

Eberechi Eze came off the bench to score for England in Latvia. Gabriel Martinelli on target for Brazil against Japan.

i’m no expert on corpse logistics but does israel thinks the palestinians have had access to a morgue fridge for the last year or two? those bodies are probably underneath the building israel bombed on top of them.
so now they’re going to use collective punishment?

But please do tell my neighbours that when the magic bin fairy (me) leaves for a few days, someone else is going to have to do the bins (them) so that when the fairy comes back (me) she doesn’t have to drop 4 weeks worth of rubbish on a toe.

It’s twice its normal size and bleeding but I don’t think I broke it so don’t tell coach 😂

After losing some key players to injuries there was a lot of talk in training tonight about conditioning for the match this weekend so this evening I stretched then went outside in my flip flops to do bins and tripped over a flowerpot and dropped a wheelie bin on my toe.

Tbf mass lead poisoning of young men might explain *quite a lot* of what’s been happening in recent years.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Only he was incredibly famous and influential, and though no one ever mentioned him before, and never will again, it is simply absurd that you've never heard of him.

A modern parable.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
You'll never hear about Spigboobs again. Your friends, when you visit, will not even point out the striking features of their Nike collab Spigboobs fireplace. It'll be again as before, like the man did not exist.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
Which to you, suggests he's not all that famous, actually. You make this point. You suggest it is THEY who are stupid for being terminally online. One of them will say 'this is the whitest thing you've ever said.' Only then will you realise Spigboobs is Black. There is simply no returning from this.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
They'll eulogise about this person who did not exist to you until six minutes ago. You'll have to accept you are clearly fucking stupid for never having heard of Spigboobs, though you feel fairly righteous about the fact it's not so much you hadn't 'heard' as much as he never permeated your sphere.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
They'll each recall important facts about Spigboobs. One of them will have run into him in a Gay Communist bar in Brighton. Another will have loved the weird youtube shorts he made with Trent Reznor circa 2011. Another will mention they own one of his limited edition Nike collab fireplaces.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
They'll criticise your orthogonal argument. You'll retract.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
They'll laugh and all agree he was hugely influential. You'll swear they've never mentioned the name aloud to you in the 13 years you've known them. They'll say 'well I never mentioned Moby Dick either. He's also famous.' You'll say 'well except Moby Dick isn't real'.
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
Some 98yo fireplace designer called Spigboobs will die. And suddenly your whatsapps are full of 'I can't believe Spigboobs died.' You'll ask: 'who the hell is Spigboobs??' They'll ask 'you've... not heard of Spigboobs?'
sonicscrewup.bsky.social
Well as a Mozart nerd and someone who - to use proper media theory parlance - proper fucks with Schafer's play and film - I'm dead excited for this.
