Apparently every Chinese academic in any field of “interest” to the PLA is getting their visa rejected for, more or less, presumptively being a spy. My friend’s visa is denied because she studies “neuroscience.” What she actually studies is jaw pain - but ICE is flatly rejecting all appeals.
Just got the word that the Trump administration is throwing a brilliant medical researcher friend of mine out of the country because they’re Chinese. Insane and unreal. Literally doing research in the US to help the US

When I was growing up the common line was “we won’t act on climate change until it’s too late.” COVID proved that we won’t act even after it’s too late. 1 million deaths got turned into a boring standard partisan debate point within a few months.
Following this period, during which public health officials and electeds did whatever they could to limit viral transmission, there were 77k Covid deaths in December. At the peak of the December/January wave, you could stand outside in northeast LA and it was ambulance sirens every 5-10 minutes.

Had to vote in person for the first time in over a decade and.... man even with poll workers doing an excellent job it still took two hours to get my ballot cast. It is truly insane that in this day and age that many people are still forced to do this.

MMT is entirely correct about the economics + resources angle but struggles to deal with the politics of the crisis is where I'm at
I mean, they are right, you can print money with deficit spending and tax it back to prevent inflation. The issue is that this isnt new, and its very hard for democratic governments to execute on higher taxes into inflation
