Hello, armor lovers! ⚔️ My latest for @hyperallergic.com is a review of the reopening of the arms and armor galleries at the @worcesterartmuseum.bsky.social. As you will see, there is a global take on armor from Corinthian helmets to Samurai to Mughal soldiers to the Mandalorian that I loved.
A Millennia-Long Fascination With Armor
The Worcester Art Museum’s reopening of its armor galleries goes far beyond the romance with medieval Europe.

I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.

Also, the arctic vortex wandering south like this IS an indicator of climate change, as it is due to the destabilization of the jet stream and oceanic currents.
Yes, it’s cold across part of the United States today.

This does *not* mean the global-scale patterns of long-term warming linked to climate change are not happening.

The United States covers only 1.8% of the planet. And a few days is only 0.03% of the 30 years we average for climate statistics.

Hospitals like Adventist need to provide a mechanism for getting these families into (and out of) the hospital without being detected because ICE is clearly just waiting in the parking lot for anyone who looks latine. This is the same place where that ICE shooting happened earlier in the month.
The parents of a 7 year old, all of whom are in the process of applying for asylum, took their daughter to the ER when her nose wouldn't stop bleeding. ICE picked them up near the hospital and they are now in detention in Texas, presumably awaiting deportation. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...

Boosting this again because it's a good resource and also to stress the ALERTA guidance. As someone responding to calls, the more specific you can be the better. Addresses or landmarks are key. Vehicle descriptions make identification easier. The less time we need to spend finding ICE, the better.
If you live in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont save these numbers for the various ICE watch hotlines

Something lost on JD Vance—and much of the news media—is that no legal or other reason existed to arrest the 5-year-old child’s father either. Not even the administration has articulated any reason to cage people while their asylum or other cases are proceeding.
