Gotta admit, the cult of Chotiner is a little baffling to me. He's a very good interviewer, but I think what he does is basically table stakes accountability-holding for, say, the British or German press. That it stands out so much here says more about US media than about him.

At some point NYC decided that the best way to honor every culture in the city was to shut down the schools for a thousand holidays and force parents to figure out child care when they almost certainly don't have the day off themselves.
And the free part of public school at most schools in NYC ends at around 2:45 or 3. Then you're paying for after-hours coverage and you're trying to figure out who's watching your child during all the public school holidays that aren't days off from work. I could go on.

Not only is this pretty much right, providers can barely keep the lights on charging rates this high. Very silly to leave this to the private market.
