The third option is getting involved in primary elections so that establishment Dems and ALL Republicans no longer have a seat at the table. To be blunt, there is no other way that we are going to get election reform passed then because they're only interest is their own power.

Even if superhero stuff isn't your jam, I think you'd probably like Doom Patrol! It's weird and campy and emotionally driven.

While other shows would agonize over 'Does using violence against fascists make us as bad as them?', Doom Patrol says 'Oh, those guys are nazis? Killing them is cathartic!'

Of all the superhero stuff to air on TV over the past decade or so, the only thing that I've fully vibed with was Doom Patrol.

Just unvarnished Grant Morrison. Queer as hell, violently anti-fascist and burning with white-hot indignation.

Gotta rewatch it sometime. I think it'll age well.

Same with DOGE — it’s so weird when people are Iike “gosh it failed to meet its goal of government efficiency” rather than “looks like its real goal was to steal data while breaking federal agencies and ending support for black and brown people abroad”
Decent story but infuriating that this is still being cast as a good-faith institution that failed to achieve its lofty goals rather than a fundamentally cynical right-wing project.

Look what Bari Weiss is doing to CBS! Why would you assume her goal here was any different?

we spend a lot of time on this site discussing the flaws of conservative epistemology, like "the world is dangerous and out to kill you and your gut feelings should always be trusted,"but I think we should not spare our ire for centrist *and leftist* epistemological flaws like"bad people don't exist"

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.

Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction

It can be done.

Getting absolutely dogwalked in the courts like this is bogging down their ability to do a lot of the stuff they want to do (see below).

SCOTUS is going to insulate the regime from most of the personal consequences (read: Nuremberg) until we take control and pack the court.

All of them. Please understand that before this moment we were already over the line, it has just expanded to include more communities
Let me say something very directly.

We are objectively in a fascist authoritarian moment here in this country.

Academics and historians have established indicators for this. We are well over the line on many of them.

You can't legislate this problem away because we have a lawless executive that ignores laws it doesn't like
We should not fund DHS without serious reform. We could return CBP to border. We could require warrants for immigration arrests. We could beef up training and require identification.

The list of possible reforms is long. What's unacceptable is the current lawless status quo.

I remain absolutely furious that all this shit in Minneapolis started because a barely-literate homeschooled mormon made a video trying to run up in daycare centers trying to find people of Somalian descent doing fraud despite the ringleader (a white woman) being in jail since March. Demonic.

imo of all the formal political institutions in US life, the judiciary has given the best account of itself by a pretty large margin (with the obvious exception of SCOTUS) and a younger me was way more dismissive of the courts than history would prove deserved
A magistrate judge found no probable cause to support arrest warrants for 5 people involved in the St. Paul church protest.

DOJ appealed to the 8th Cir.

That appeal led to this remarkable letter from the Chief Judge of the Minnesota district court…

One of the reasons why Elon Musk and other folks on the right want to shut down Wikipedia (or "compete" with it). It's a good platform for regular folks to accumulate data, even keep track of all of this administration's atrocities in real time. Great work

I can't put into words the feeling of watching our government, a hive of evil antisocial filth, the absolute worst humanity has to offer, colliding with the best. Ordinary people trying to help each other, risking everything to stand up for what's plainly, unambiguously fair and right. It's unreal

The long tail of the fund the police movement is killing free society.
Most of this year's ICE budget comes from last year's reconciliation bill. House Democratic leaders discouraged its members from offering amendments eliminating that funding. Didn't want the party to come across as anti-ICE.
