Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

I sometimes wonder if I'm just an auld fella shaking my fist at clouds when I back off from modern tech, but the truth is, most big tech products are no longer built to be useful, they're built to rinse you for a minimum standard service. And even children can see this.

Oh this looks like an hilarious spoof of a very bad movie idea, very badly executed... unfortunately it's real. Still I loved the bit in the novel were a pig drives a sports car into a pool, glad they kept that in www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8wL...

- I order the book, but it doesn't ship for weeks, despite being 'In Stock'. The expected delivery date is changed to May 26, even though the book is still allegedly 'In Stock'.
- It suddenly arrives. The postman doesn't...

There's not a lot about Arthur Conan Doyle to respect, but I do have to give him props for refusing ever to elaborate on the Giant Rat of Sumatra. He may not have been able to keep Sherlock Holmes dead, but he said the world was not ready for the story of that case, and he kept his word.

MUPPET WICKER MAN (Brian Henson, 1993)

Police Sergeant Kermie travels to the isolated town of Summerisle in search of a missing girl. He finds the locals to be a surly and suspicious lot, rustic practitioners of crude bawdiness and Celtic neo-paganism. Starring Vincent Price as Lord Summerisle.

What's funny is that Tarantino and Coogler both made "criminal brothers go to a place and then halfway through FUCK!! there are vampires!"

While they both told a similar story, we have to admit that they're actually both based on Hitchock's Psycho

Found out a distant-ish relative has taken an od (and is now in hospital with a knackered liver). Don't really know them that well but it's still a bit of a shock. If it gets that bad just talk to someone folks.

also always deeply funny that every sci-fi video game from 1999-2014 was trying to be Aliens, and copied everything except the...working class woman protagonist
Everyone imitates Tolkien all the time except when it comes to the one way it would really matter: making the protagonist of your novel for children a short, fat, 50-year-old man who doesn't want to do anything.

Apparently the 'Aardman using AI' thing is using it for tweening claymation, ie filling the incremental shots between each pose, which animators have been using computers for with 2 and 3d animation for years, not generative AI.
