Just gonna throw out there, $220 and my 1 month prescription can be a three month prescription for like 3 of my meds which would help take some of the stress out of the start of new healthcare costs in 2026.

tldr Poverty line is calculated as 3x a year’s food budget b/c the calculation dates to the 60s when food was 1/3 of spending. Food is now 1/16 of spending due to other costs rising hugely, so the official US poverty line for a family of 4 is $35,000 but updating the logic it should be $140,000!
We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.

The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Which is why the rage.

Alt text that that has humor and personality and sounds like it was written by the person who took the photo is great, but you gotta do that while remembering that the fundamental purpose is communicating what the image is.
Alt Text isn't the space for seo, secret notes, or inside jokes. It's for people to access media and any context or information that that media has.

If we gon make things right, we gotta find ways to make things right that don't leave us behind.
Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images.

The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

Hey I remember a time when friends would loan each other books regularly. "Can I borrow that when you're done?" was a common, kind of sweet question. It meant you trusted your friend's taste or at least wanted to talk to them about the books you were reading.

Cool authors do this for the record
KDP now asks if all the images in your ebook have alt text, which is cool

The year that I actually read, not just think that I might read, 1000 books is the year I will admit to this and not one moment before.
at what point does binge reading count as a form of substance abuse

This will only matter to like 4 of you but I've coordinated about 20 Disney trips in my life of big groups of friends and as such get asked for tips a lot. So a thread, apply none or all.

1) a backpack
2) in it, bring a spare pair of underwear in case you sweat through pair one

I am very much in this holiday for delicious food, we are not doing any kind of celebration of the founding of this country, especially not while we are actively continuing our rampant persecution of anyone darker than cheese cloth.
On the topic of Thansgiving, my parents moved to Plymouth when I was a teenager. The one thing that cured my ra-ra pilgrim bullshit real quick were the Indigenous Wampanoag protests proclaiming Thanksgiving a day of mourning.

This holiday has good carbs.
And that's about it.

CN: alcohol

and yet more evidence that I do in fact, love this girl very much, she wants Coquito. I’m trying to make Coquito happen before tomorrow.
Was Coquito a part of the plan before 15 minutes ago, absolutely not.

Oh no I just saw a picture of the art supply suitcase go by so it must be time for my yearly psa: don't buy that.

I've been given it many times in my life and it was usable once: in 1989.

"But I don't know what to get my artist friends/talented cousins for the holidays!"

I will help.

I am so grateful to everyone who has stepped up to help this awesome member of our local SF trans nerd community. I know everything is hard right now but I'd be so incredibly grateful if you could spare a few bucks now.

We are working on helping her get a job, it's just a tough market right now 😭
i should have got this up sooner, but i was ashamed; need to try to raise money for rent again this month and i remain (mostly; might have PT work!) unemployed as we approach year end.

please help me keep myself and my partner housed.

"Assume everyone I interact with online is struggling with their mental health" has only become a more important guiding principle in the past couple years
My personal guidelines for dealing with people on social media:

Assume everyone is a friend you haven't yet gotten to know.
Assume everyone is struggling with their mental health
Don't promise any emotional labor you might not be able to provide
If someone seems like a hater, disengage right away

If you are able to use it, I love that for you, but it is not available to all of us.

My phone is doing all the same things from 2015 with only minimal benefits. The only reason we have to upgrade is increased software bloat.

We should actually just have phones that last 15 years now.

Boy and I had to have a talk this morning about how I am just a nod in a space for Gallo’s humor and this is a problem because with the state of everything, his default response is gallows humor. And I get it and I need you to make those jokes to your other old white dude friends.

When you are talking about a food desert, the market is definitionally not providing access to food because there is…no store.
The market does provide it. The reason private stores aren't selling fresh produce nearby is that not enough ppl want it (or rather, want it badly enough to pay what it actually costs to produce and deliver)--even when the federal govt is helping cover the bill via EBT.

Poor ppl have agency, too!
People need food. Market won’t provide it. Government should. It’s literally the whole point.

Fuck Amazon. Fuck WalMart. Fuck Target. Shop small if you can.
