Maher Tarabishi, who has been detained by ICE since October, was the primary caretaker of his disabled adult child, Wael.

On Jan. 23, Wael died from complications related to Pompe disease, a rare genetic condition.

ICE has now denied Maher’s request to attend his funeral, his attorney says.

One thing I hope people take the time to acknowledge: The sea change in public opinion has been achieved because violence, though encourage by a lot of people here online, was never once employed by the movement. Violence was solely the purview of the state and that is why the state is losing.

Still can't believe they immediately put the officers who killed Pretti back in the field. Even if the shooting had been justified (it wasn't), it's just incredibly callous and reckless -- to the public, but also to the officers themselves. Just a sociopathic dearth of humanity.

Of a piece with the ideology of this administration that violence is awesome, that they just think the people who do violence are Awesome McBaddasses who can’t have been themselves psychologically harmed by their actions. Not even evaluating these guys is dangerous and, obviously, irresponsible.
CBP chief Bovino has confirmed that the officers who executed Alex Pretti in the street yesterday are not only *not on administrative leave,* they have all been reassigned to other jurisdictions and are all on the street today.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting

It's hard to know where to start with this degenerate hogwash. But that last line "ICE > MN" captures it. The ICE agents are superior to the whole state. That's their mentalty and model.
This is an actual post from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: Praising ICE after Alex Pretti was killed, blaming the Democratic leadership of Minnesota, and writing that ICE is greater/better than Minnesota.

He is actively demeaning the people of Minnesota just hours after Pretti was murdered.

As I explained earlier this month, we're too literal abt what amounts to military occupation. The ICE/CPB operations in Blue cities are the kinds of garrisoning of civilian towns that the founding documents opposed. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/dont-...

“[A Federal agency] is better than/superior to/worthier than the people of a state of the Federal Union is a monstrously depraved thing for an official of that federal government to say.

Public executions at the hands of the government should never happen in “the land of the free.”

Not one more taxpayer dollar for Trump’s DHS, CBP or ICE.

They have been itching to kill liberals for decades, they’re excited now to finally get to do it, they have this fantasy that it will grant them total victory, but it’s going to be what destroys them.
The conservative intelligentsia and media-industrial complex has been publicly masturbating about getting to kill people for years now, they are orders of magnitude worse than even the MAGA base. Everybody knows this, it's just politically incorrect to say it.
miller is regularly blamed but vance is not held to any account at all for having started the chain of events that got us here

As JD Vance starts trying to play "nice Gestapo" to Steven Miller's "mean Gestapo," it's worth emphasizing that what's happening in Minnesota is a direct descendant of Vance's knowingly false racist demagoguery during the campaign. "Somalis are low-IQ thieves" is "Haitians are eating your pets."

References to “1984” are appropriate and apt but do remember that this admin doesn’t actually have the ability of The Party to cow the public into accepting the obvious lies. It didn’t work with Renee Good and it really isn’t going to fucking work with Alex Pretti.

This is Alex Pretti.

This morning he was murdered by ICE. Six ICE agents held him down and shot him at point blank range. Alex was a nurse and researcher at the VA.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and we stand united in action calling for the abolishment of ICE.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

i'll say it again -- even if there's nothing formal dem leaders can do* they should show up to the protests themselves

put their bodies between ice thugs and their victims**
There has been an increasing sense in Minneapolis that we are on our own, that our elected representatives are unwilling and/or unable to take action to get these murderous Nazi thugs out of our community. I really hope that changes today. The time for pleading TV hits ended weeks ago.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

Ok, well,
1. Coercion of individuals for the broader public good is sort of a definitional aspect of the state, with allowances for individual liberties, but also
2. That isn’t even operational in this case, because kids aren’t the property of their parents and vaccination is for their protection.
So you think kids should be vaccinated at gunpoint against their parents’ wishes or removed from the home?

Massachusetts is on the door step of an imminent surge from ICE and over the past few months of relative calm on our streets there has been little action by our Governor or Legislature to prepare. Rapid response networks and immigrant justice groups have been getting ready. Why haven't our leaders?
In Maura Healey's State of the Commonwealth address, she devoted a paragraph to talking about how terrible ICE is but nary a single word to what she might actually do in response.

One of the real aggravations of planning home renovations is you can’t just research home equity loan rates, every lender just immediately swoops in with the full court press to sell sell sell, calling you multiple times a week, sending massive packets in the mail, it’s just incredibly obnoxious.
