Today is the day you've been waiting for:
Sliced leftover tofurkey.
Vegenaise.
Homemade gluten-free sourdough from a strain of wild yeast you isolated and have been culturing for two months.

Got get it, champ.

There's only one group I see that has a difficult time integrating into modern society, and Stephen Miller is part of it.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

Tofurkey trot complete.

Up early, pondering a big Thanksgiving Day risk: scrapping the tofurkey, going all out with the tofurducken.
No guts, no glory.

Be sure you have a plan for your oven timing tomorrow. Tofurkeys can be temperamental, and you'll want to make sure you have time to get it just right.

You aren’t stealing the book. They’re saying m that you are stealing their charity. And their charity is part of how they perform citizenship. The branded little free libraries are very much tied to white ideas of charity, thus they come with binaries about who deserves charity.

This would be great project
Super fun to watch Councilmembers try to articulate why a Little Free Library is just neighborly kindness, the sort of thing every suburban homeowner would welcome on their street, but something like a free food fridge is absolutely different and needs to go before the zoning board.

Gentle reminder, beloveds: season the tofurkey also.
“Oh it’s got a 48 hour brine”

Yesterday, a nice white lady expressed her concern to me that some folks were selling food they got from the community food pantry. She was concerned that folks would stop donating if their contributions were not used as they intended.
I simply asked, "Is it a gift, or not?"
Writing about people donating trash is — and I kid you not — the only thing (so far) to almost get me fired. White people were LIVID. And organized to get my university fired for it.

This is the holy grail of whiteness, patriarchy, and capitalism in some surprising ways.

Bless that prof!
I had a womens studies professor try to coax a class to understand that it’s not ’wrong’ for an alcoholic homeless person to take your change you tossed and spend it on alcohol. People were livid lol. It really changed my perspective on giving. its freeing to give without expectation.

A world where you only see and hear what you want to--that is, where there are no surprises--is so bleak.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

Last thing: ICE is still here. Bovino moved on but one of the biggest ICE offices in the South is still at work ripping my neighbors away from this community. Nobody at ICE left when CBP headed off to drive headlines elsewhere.
