It's irritating that they describe the effects of his racism as limited to causing controversy within science and reputational consequences for himself rather than giving an immeasurable boost, false veneer of legitimacy, and idiot-friendly prestige to modern scientific racism and eugenics.

I fully understand how difficult it is to remain focused on any one particular atrocity but this really ought to be a serious scandal and people need to pay heavy prices for this
I think the Trump admin assumed no one would try to find out who the people on the boats they blew up really were

At first, I felt like I had freaking super powers. Like a PI with a nearly infinite supply of talented lab members, who worked at 1000x speed. It was exhilarating.

But then, the cracks started to show. TL;DR: If Claude were my grad student, I'd kick them out of my lab.

Today I learned that when sugarcane farmers burn their fields, a “black snow” falls for months on communities downwind. Under FL law, burns are prohibited when the wind is blowing into wealthy, white neighborhoods. They’re only allowed when it’s blowing into poor, majority black areas.
Sugarcane burning is a plague on these Black Floridians

Now do the Department of Defense budget, Andrew.

“Washington has thrown billions at NIH for decades with little accountability and few measurable outcomes,” HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a statement to Future Pulse.

I wish there were a better mechanism to flag papers whose core results have subsequently been overturned, and propagate those flags throughout the citation web containing such papers. Would be esp. helpful to jr scientists doing lit review and similar
Precisely why a powerful editor should not be retracting peer-reviewed no-misconduct articles 15 yrs after the fact just to score political points and attention. science is messy, and even wrong ideas can help lead us to better ones.

One thing that really bothers me with the new "virtual cell" terminology is that it is currently largely focused on a very narrow definition of models that can predict effects of trans perturbations (gene dosage, drugs etc) on gene expression. 1/

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.

Kennedy provides a bunch of references for his claim that thimerosal in vaccines (barely used anymore) is harmful.

If a high-school student submitted this as their reference list, they would fail.

I will do what Kennedy didn’t - actually look at them. 🧵
