what I worry about, and anecdotally have sorta started seeing, is that the "you don't have to know how to code at all!" thing is imputing a level of care and seriousness to what Anthropic et al are putting out there, and that things like their marketplace aren't just "here it is" but "this is good"

it is absolutely WILD that I was a huge Aaron Rodgers fan for like 15 years, and now because of his YouTube algorithm I’m waiting anxiously to retweet screencaps of his face as he gets strip-sacked

You are spreading enemy propaganda when you say this.

You are saying exactly the lie the fascist Trump regime wants you to believe and say.
When you say that “most Americans support the murder of Renee Good (or most other awful MAGA actions,” you are doing Trump’s propaganda work for him.

Polling makes it very clear that most Americans do NOT support this shit.

I am that kind of person; I do.
A Christian mom whose first name means “reborn” & whose surname name is “Good” forgiving her murderer seconds before being executed is the sort of thing that I’d probably regard as a sign if I were disposed to that sort of thing.
We joke about "the writers" being heavy handed, but that they murdered someone with THIS name is an especially big fuckup by an evil administration that needs to be able to control the messaging.

Karen's always been a misogynistic insult/meme and that's never been clearer.
As a lady who dabbles in being smug a few years into her thirties, I request we retire "Karen" as an insult until such time the American public decides being one should not carry the death penalty.

Not sure I'm sold on the theology of this but signing that particular dotted line is as obvious a deal with the Adversary as I think you can possibly make. The Old Testament says that you must not profit by the blood of your neighbor; the New Testament commands that we love our neighbor. Not hard!
In the Inferno, Dante claims that a human being can commit a sin so grievous that their soul is immediately pulled down to the deepest layer of hell, & a demon takes control of their body until they die.

That’s what happens to every ICE agent when they sign their contract. There’s no soul left.
ICE beat a U.S. Marine Veteran, telling her: “Have you not learned? This is why we killed that lesbian bitch!”

My dad is what you might call existentially literal. Another time as a kid, at the beach, I picked up a fistful of sand and said to him, "Dad, there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth."

He paused, thought about it. "No there aren't."

That's fair. And folks need to remember you draft plans to reduce the time between decision and action, rather than because the decision is already made. Alarming as this is, there are still very likely many months of off-ramps before anything will happen

yeah--I have pretty much always said "I don't really like programming, I like having programmed".

sometimes I might get some endorphins from doing something particularly clever, but usually it's just janitorial work to instantiate my mind palace

I was talking to my neighbor last night who’s also in tech and we agreed that we both love Claude code because we care more about building things than writing code per se. if you view code as a means to an end, LLMs are great. If you view code as an end in itself, they’re not.
I think that this is not true for all developers, which is part of the friction here. There are devs who like the implementation more than the output, and more than the deliverable solving a problem.

I've always been output first, so the adoption was smooth. Other points on the spectrum feel pain.
