Still thinking about this article. It’s always been a sore spot in YIMBY circles that so many progressive foundations pour money into NIMBYism, and I’m glad it’s finally being aired in public. Keep talking about it. www.insidephilanthropy.com/home/philant...
Philanthropy Needs to Pick a Side on the Housing Construction Debate
Despite California’s severe housing shortage, foundations are still funding on the wrong side of the housing fight there, guest author Ned Resnikoff writes.

I think the npm client should probably follow pnpm in making post-install scripts be opt-in and recording that decision in package-lock, so if a package that was previously inert suddenly has a post-install script, it wouldn't execute.

Last night I discovered that the blue tape the previous owners put on our outdoor spigot was actually load bearing. It sprung a leak and I had to shut off water to the house. I feel there is some sort of lesson I could learn about software engineering here 😂

Dear gem maintainers 👋

Rails 8.1 just dropped, but many gems can’t be used because of overly strict gemspec constraints.

Please don’t hard-restrict Rails versions, let us test early and report real issues sooner! ❤️

Thanks

They're great. One of the best things they do is other city subway maps in different styles. For example, they did BART, LAMTA and CTA in the style of the DC Metro Map. It really drives home how a map's design language helps us relate to a city and transit system!

Just merged support for deprecating associations in Active Record.

I have been working on this one for a while as part of my consulting work with Gusto.

Wrote a simpler version as a monkey patch to AR for them first, and they were glad to contribute it back to Rails.

They do this for all 9,386 soldiers who died.

Tom, context matters. In April we had 26 overruns from over 213,000+ 🔴🚇station stops which is a 99.99% reliability rate & overruns are not considered a safety issue by federal database or other peer agencies as it simply does not pose a safety risk. ATO is safer operations.
Today the Washington Metrorail Safety Comm. said it wants to see more from Metro before allowing #wmata to expand its use of automated trains. Since Metro began using automation on the Red Line in Dec, trains have overrun platforms hundreds of times. Metro & WMSC disagree on if it's a safety issue.
