For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.

Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

UATX faculty members left universities that actually value academic freedom, but where they sometimes experienced the disapproval of their colleagues and students.

And so they left for a fake university where they get yelled at like minions of a tech overlord.

Which, it turns out, they are.

Attended at Bat Mitzvah last weekend and was struck by how much the Torah parshah - the start of Exodus - bore similarities to the deportation crisis initiated by Donald Trump and Stephen Miller. Excerpts from Etz Hayim, the Conservative movement's chumash. 🧵1/7

…the state’s white slaveholders.

one of my most consistent takes on here is that the left-liberal divide online really exaggerates the differences and that fundamentally most people who identify as either are decent folks who just want to help

I think we're seeing the truth of that right now in minneapolis

I think we need to understand the extent to which this use of "liberal white women" is a way of saying "race traitor." They aren't attacking these women for being white but for having a lack of loyalty to whiteness.

I recently read The Race Beat which argues that brutal images of state violence against Black folks helped the Civil Rights movement and delegimated southern law enforcement. ICE, like Bull Connor, thinks they are displaying masculinity but most people hate this shit. It will undermine their goals.

Not remotely legal. Minnesota needs to arrest these thugs breaking down doors right now, before they start grabbing even more power

“It would be fine to annex sovereign territory of NATO allies if food prices were lower” is not the banger messaging Democratic lawmakers and their consultants seem to think.

And their refusal to avail themselves of the legal means available to interfere with Trump’s expansionism is indefensible.

It also reveals how much MAGA is fueled by their sexual weirdness.

My most predictive theory of Trump so far is that he likes to be able to unilaterally do stuff, and the best way to predict his next pivot is when he starts getting thwarted.

Deploying the military is the new IEEPA - a vast power he can threaten, deploy or exempt from without checks and balances.

Missed this at the time (a few weeks ago) but this by @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com is exactly the kind of thinking we need.
“A 2027 Democratic Congress could impeach any number of officials in the Trump administration and the judiciary, and conduct the trial with a secret ballot. That does not guarantee that they would get enough Republicans for any of them. But it would increase their chances.”
