Minneapolis

I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence:

I have begun what I intend to be a COMPREHENSIVE guide to every location-appropriate bike rack in Minneapolis.

Thank you to everyone who helped me find these. If you know of others, let me know~

Just at the purely electoral level these are three of their weakest issues. None of my business, but it might be useful to have someone in state party leadership who wants to win elections instead of doing anti-woke reverse virtue signaling
If messaging out of Minnesota’s GOP to Congresspeople is any indication, our state is going to spend 2026 drowning in messages targeting Somali community, immigrants, and trans folks.

These aren’t “distractions” they’re active attempts to scapegoat anyone seen as “other.”

We must stand together.

Self-driving cars only reduce any of the problems of private car ownership if they’re safer (seem to be?) and cheap enough that people give up owning cars (not for a long time, if ever). Otherwise they have the same problems, e.g., this concert traffic jam isn’t better or worse with no drivers
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

I had an overnight job in college, and even on nights I wasn’t working I would be up all night because I slept afternoons. One night I was endlessly milling through the UMN campus buildings and ended up in the law school library. And I stopped suddenly in the stacks and said “…I should be a lawyer”

Met Trump tonight at a trance show in Red Hook. VERY down to earth and not at all as he’s come to us in media. A real mensch. And of course anyone who loves trance is good by me

Two guys who stuck their thumbs right in the nose of their own party’s elites by appealing directly to the voters and won unthinkable victories in the highest stake elections possible. Not hard to see why they had a “we’re not so different, you and I” connection

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

Gotta wonder if there’s some simmering hostility towards ICE among local law enforcement leadership. Untrained, masked federal goons smashing windows and tear gassing old ladies is bad optics and splashes back on their profession, which has something of a standing PR problem baked into the job
An ICE employee was among 16 men arrested after trying to solicit a minor for sex in Bloomington, Minnesota, police say

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a press conference. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

At the ribbon cutting for 1st Avenue for the potion from Lake to Franklin. Fine looking street. Just some final clean-up and spring planting left.

New facilities on either end being built next year (1st Ave Franklin to downtown on north end, access ramp at the Greenway to the south).

The old Perkins in Cedar Riverside for 1) being really loud, 2) sitting on the back of the booth, and 3) extremely drunkenly calling two guys in uniform who came over to tell me to shut up or leave "rent-a-cops" when they were, in point of fact, not of the rent-a variety

One idly wonders whether the county was waiting to see, when deciding whether to proceed with the existing street design or rework it, whether the composition of the city council might change
YOUR advocacy is working! "..., we have heard feedback regarding how we can: better separate people walking, rolling and biking; provide a transit advantage; and preserve parking and trees."

They served a celebratory supper of hogweed and dandelion salad dressed with crowfoot and garlic mustard and baked loaves of onion bread, with a dessert of almond cake with candied lilac buds, made from fresh ingredients which the Dibbuns had gathered from the orchard.
