In retrospect, history books should have written about Charles Lindbergh as a horrible and dangerous man who happened to have done some cool stuff early in his life as opposed to a hero who took an unfortunate turn later in life

you guys are still trying to redo Liberation Day. I'm telling you we can't do it. Now what we might be able to do is re-create it. We re-create it in the aggregate.

Generally speaking, the President of the United States should never call for anyone to be fired from their private-sector job. It's an abuse of his public power over a much less powerful private citizen.

Ankara's business community was already an enthusiastic supporter
"NYC's business community appears to be abandoning its grudging support for former Governor Andrew Cuomo and organizing more desperately around Mayor Eric Adams in a last ditch effort to block Mamdani in November’s general election." (Story worth reading)

Eric Adams suddenly finds ‘overwhelming support’ from NYC’s desperate business elites
Wall Street’s business community looks poised to rally behind Adams, dogged by corruption and low japproval ratings, to keep Zohran Mamdani from winning November’s general election.

Not sure how to recover
I need all of #lawsky to see this video from a Colorado appeals court livestream yesterday. I am in actual tears. Sound *incredibly* on, the subtitles will not help.

Falsifying government records is a choice
This is insane and everyone involved needs to be sued into oblivion and then go directly to jail

Nightmare
So, uh, it certainly looks like DOJ intended to file a letter to Judge Liman in MTA v. Duffy, but….it accidentally filed a letter containing its legal advice to the Department of Transportation instead

This isn't a "Marc Elias" memo.

It's a clear warning to all biglaw firms to stop representing clients that the administration dislikes, lest they suffer the same fate as Perkins Coie or those other Quislings.

And it's a warning that I expect most of the white shoe set will recognize and heed.
Old Man Trump's having a night. Now there's a Marc Elias memo

Meanwhile, in the real world, the university model in the US and UK is subsidized by foreign student fees. And UK higher ed is now nearing an extinction event in part because the Tories wanted to Stop the Boats.
"Last week, Vance said foreign students at elite U.S. universities are 'not just bad for national security,' but also 'bad for the American dream, for American kids who want to go to a nice university but can’t because their spot was taken by a foreign student.'"

Universities are caving to Trump with a stunning speed and scope
Some of the nation’s oldest and wealthiest institutions are swiftly bending to President Donald Trump, who is acting on longstanding conservative criticisms of universities as elitist and progressive.

When you change direct deposit online, SSA sends a physical confirmation letter to the address on file. That’s how they fight fraud. Why are they speeding up changes to combat fraud?

One problem with the idea of reserving due process for law-abiding people is that due process is how we figure out which people are law-abiding.

I don’t think this is a winner for the Supreme Court for anybody but Alito and Thomas
Wow. DOJ is arguing that the President has authority outside the Alien Enemies Act in international waters "that would not be subject to either orders."

Boasberg seems skeptical, asking if the president's foreign power exists only once the plane crosses into international airspace?

TRUMP: Nobody is expelling any Palestinians. Who are you with?

REPORTER: I'm with Voice of America, sir.

TRUMP: Oh, no wonder.

Yeah. This is why previously sympathetic federal appellate judges will throw the book at the administration.
“[Judge] Boasberg verbally ordered the planes be turned around, but they apparently were not and he did not include the directive in his written order.

“‘Oopsie…Too late,’ Salvadoran [Dictator and Trump ally] Nayib Bukele [tweeted]”
The Trump administration has transferred hundreds of immigrants to El Salvador despite a federal judge’s order temporarily barring the deportations under an 18th century wartime declaration targeting Venezuelan gang members
