Think you can understand a lot about British politics from the ONS survey reporting that 56% of people said they voted in the last local elections, when turnout in those elections was about 36%.

Just watched All That Jazz for the first time. Not what I was expecting! Reminded me of the hallucinatory flow of Alisdair Gray’s Lanark, Iain Bank’s The Bridge, LOST with a little Rocky Horror. And Andy Diagram’s trumpet lines from The Girl at Thhe End Of The World. What a piece of work.

Because our politics is in such a terrible place, I think we downplay quite how awful Kemi Badenoch has been.

In any other era the leader of the Conservatives saying 'only migrants commit sex crimes - mass deportations now' would have not just been career ending but would've sunk the whole party

If you needed a better example of the way politicians use and discard young teenage girls, this is it. The stats are there if you’d care to view them, Kemi

Dog-whistle and factually incorrect. Ladies, raise your hand if you were sexually assaulted by a boy at school? I’d wager this or a family member is most women’s first experience of sexual violence

Even by my low expectations for Kemi Badenoch ‘violence against women and girls is something done by immigrants and nobody else’ has shocked me.

Before Google was founded in 1998, Altavista ruled the world of internet search engines.

On December 15, 1995, a team of researchers led by Louise Monier and Michael Burrows created the AltaVista search engine.

I hereby state - as a license-fee payer - that no part of the sum I pay shall be used by the BBC to fund what is effectively is a shakedown by the worst person in the world.

I'd rather it was spent on something more worthy, like Cash In The Attic.
Rather than suffer any reputational damage, surely the BBC going to court with Donald Trump can only enhance its reputation?

The Shatner/Folds cover is supreme. I’ve always said this.
William Shatner's "Common People", a spoken word cover of Pulp's 1995 hit, is the greatest cover version ever made. Secondly, and rather hilariously, it actually reached number 1 on the UK singles chart in late 2004, while Pulp's original could only manage number 2 in 1995.

The Exorcist. A first date.
Partway through she leaned against me, I put my hand on her arm, it was cold & clammy. Turned to look, she was deathly pale, head flopping, eyes rolled back, started moaning.
Oh shit.

Eventually she came round, she’d fainted at medical stuff.
So was there a second date?…
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

For the record, Robin Ince is a superb comedian, an absolute mensch, a remarkable thinker and the kindest human you’ll ever meet. And the BBC is a genuinely great and globally unique institution that needs to stop being afraid. I think that’s where most of its faults and issues stem from.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Today the government said it would take 5 years to halve homelessness. Why?
Nothing has radicalised me more than seeing how the government completely elimimated homelessness during the pandemic and yet after it was done we were right back to pretending it was impossible.
