Good balanced account to compare with that gloomy nobody-can-read-or-write-any-more thread mentioned, which has been doing the rounds. (And which concluded with “Maybe we’re all traumatised and need to remake society” 🤷‍♂️)
Reading a gloomy thread about students who won’t or can’t read or learn and then thinking about the conferences I’ve been having with my students who are writing essays on David Copperfield. Anecdotes are not data and these are upper year majors but they seem generally keen and engaged.

They say anyone who stands in the ruins on a silent night can faintly hear the wailings of the terrifying “lady in red"
Athassel Priory • Tipperary • c.1200

Undoubtedly one of Ireland's most impressive and expansive medieval ruins, Athassel Priory was founded for the Augustinians by William Fitz Aldhelm de Burgh.

Athassel would become a key mausoleum, or burial place, of the powerful De Burgh dynasty.

In a truly unbelievable 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' interview, Kate Beckinsale claimed that her daughter's boyfriend has laid two eggs — and had pictures to prove it: 'What in the world?'

At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

The interesting & important thing to consider is what happens when people are fed an endless stream of cute animal AI slop indefinitely. Will they happily consume it forever? Get bored & ignore that whole slop genre? Crave authentic content? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
No, your favourite influencer hasn't got a dozen Dachshund dogs. It's just AI
There’s a new social media trend taking over - influencers are using AI to add animals to their photos.

I released an album today, I’d love you to check it out.

It’s called “Certain Stories” - 12
sad songs with glimmers of hope sprinkled throughout. An “it’s cold outside, but the heating is on” record.

So, my home town is having a meltdown on social media because a 50 year old brick and concrete bus shelter is being taken down to make way for a modern replacement.

Facebook posts commenced. Several a day on the Community pages.

An online petition was started.

And now... This.

As L’Atalante is re-released, we count down the best movies set largely on ships, boats, barges, yachts, steamers and trimarans. Submarines banned, as they’re under water
