I've been reading lots of year-end takes on future of U.S. electricity production, many of which are sheer fantasy because they do not take into account historical development timelines, nor what it would take to enable gas and nuclear to compete with renewables.

I cannot help being impressed that, at a time when the US did not exist & much of Europe was still recovering from the collapse of the Roman Empire, the science, technology & literature of the East were translated here—often back into Latin—and passed to our northern neighbors through this School 🤔

A new bench at JIC in memory of Helen Kieser. She moved to Norwich with David Hopwood in the 1960s and was instrumental in establishing the Streptomyces group and Molecular Microbiology @johninnescentre.bsky.social. Hard to overstate her importance to the #streptomyces field and community.
