The PPACA, for all its flaws, absolutely transformed American health insurance for the better. The only way to make it better is to provide a public option, but that’s only on the GOP agenda if Mamdani gets another Oval Office visit while Trump has that bill on his desk.
NEW: Donald Trump says he wants ACA funds to end after 2025

“I’d rather not" extend them, he tells reporters on AF1. "I don’t want to extend them for two years. I’d rather not extend them at all."

He wants cash to go "directly" to people. Unclear how that'd work.

Trump says he would 'rather not' extend Obamacare tax credits 'at all'
The president said he prefers to let the Affordable Care Act subsidies expire on schedule at the end of December, saying if anything he wants the money to go to "the people directly."

At first glance, this suggests to me that the current administration is interested in Ivy League serfdom. Or, more in line with some previous policy moves, plantations.
Breaking News: Cornell University reached an agreement with the Trump administration that would restore hundreds of millions in funding to the university. It's expected to pay a $30 million fine to the government and to invest $30 million in agriculture and farming programs.
Cornell Reaches Deal with Trump Administration to Restore Research Funds
The Ivy League university had warned of layoffs after the Trump administration stripped it of funds this year. The cuts were among the deepest in higher education.

If Biden had said you have to show ID at a grocery store, there would have been a concerted media effort calling for a 25th Amendment solution.
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

Can we get some input on this from the son with whom he shares that porn accountability app? It seems like the only thing he has seen or heard over the last several weeks has been porn. Like, exclusively.
Q: Just last week a minister was shot directly in the face with a pepper round by a DHS agent that left his face bloodied. Are you concerned that this is a religious freedom issue?

MIKE JOHNSON: I can't comment on any of those instances. I haven't seen or heard any of those videos

I don’t think this explains the spate of… let’s say “creatively nonsensical”… SCOTUS rulings by the current Court, but it would be a reasonable explanation.
Federal Judges— or staff, but same-same— used "AI" to summarize & draft rulings, issued them w/o checking the work, leading to basic factual errors, & thus undermining the facticity & validity of the rulings entire.

Gee. Who Could Have Foreseen. *stares directly into the camera like in the office*
Two federal judges say use of AI led to errors in US court rulings
Two federal judges admitted in response to an inquiry by U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley that members of their staff used artificial intelligence to help prepare recent court orders that Grassley called "error-ridden."

…are we sure he isn’t adding on an entire-ass Trump Tower?
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.

Yup. Pretty sure one of the inherent checks on executive power given to Congress is their ability to pass laws that apply to everyone.
The Supreme Court announcing that a president cannot not be held criminally liable for virtually anything he does in office based on nothing in the text, structure, or history of the Constitution was extremely bad, IMHO

My working theory is that Trump remains incredibly mad at the American people for failing to re-elect him in 2020, and so is doing his utmost to inflict pain upon US citizens (and others) as punishment. Nothing being done under this administration serves to disabuse me of this notion.

I know @idislikestephen.bsky.social recently called out AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" as overused in movies on PCHH, but I swear the scene in Battleship that has the veterans prepping the USS Missouri for battle to this song has more heart than any 6 randomly chosen romcoms.

Can we start calling this "Trump's Folly" yet? It seems like a good messaging strategy right now to highlight the corruption and egotism.
Kudos to the Associated Press, which - unlike reports today from the Times, the Post, and CNN - notes the lack of necessary approvals for the project

If you're using a toilet, you should sit. Yes, this is an ethical stance.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Painting the GOP as the party of crime and corruption shouldn't be tough. Maybe do that, Democratic establishment.
Trump isn’t even trying to hide the fact that the DOJ is completely politicized and the rule of law no longer applies federally

“Idiocracy” was too f-ing optimistic.
HuffPost asked the White House who suggested Budapest as the location for President Trump and President Putin’s next summit.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied:

“Your mom did.”

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung replied:

“Your mom.”

“Ok, I know we didn’t explicitly cover this in your training, but a picture of the guy with his Oscar is considered PII…”
Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

I feel like the guy who sent people to the Capitol on 2021-01-06 after a rally on the Mall was aware that he was POTUS that day. It seems that he may be somewhat confused about it now.
Hey @jaketapper.bsky.social, I'm no expert on cognitive illnesses, but it feels a bit detached from reality for a sitting POTUS to forget that he was in power during an attack on the U.S. Capitol, doesn't it? Do you know anyone in journalism with experience covering dementia-like symptoms?

Regardless, maybe treat medical emergencies? Moral judgment is killing people.
A lawsuit alleges a Black postal worker died after officers ignored clear signs he was suffering from a massive stroke, believing his medical emergency was drugs

The suit says guards left him helpless on a jail cell floor in his own urine for hours

Democratic politicians: learn from this gentleman.

If you’d come forward in the last presidential election with a response to the “they/them” ad that said, “yes, we are against bullies”, things might have gone better.
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Feels like the 13th Amendment might outlaw making employees work without paying them for their time, ever.
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

May be a hot take, but declaring war on your own cities might be a little unconstitutional and wrong.
