There are many levels of "naked": underwear only, no clothing at all & the highest level of (human) nakedness: only wearing socks.

Then we have the glass frogs of Family Centrolenidae, who take it to the next level: visible organs.

This is part of their Cloak of Invisibility!

Read this yesterday, and what's particularly annoying is how close this comes at times. ".. substituted “rationalism” and “AGI” for a coherent theology of Progress" .. like, yes? Go on, you had something there. Then it turned into feeling worried that the leviathan might not always favor you.

And, on top of all this, actively hate and try to drive away anyone who is well connected to what is happening, does have insider tips, is capable of basic reasoning, values the truth over their immediate feelings, and admits when they don't know. They literally send such people death threats.
BlueSky is fundamentally a low information network full of people who are not well connected to what is happening, do not have insider tips, are largely not capable of basic reasoning, do not value the truth over their immediate feelings, and habitually confabulate rather than admit they don't know.
The person trying to argue 50% of Americans are below the poverty line doing so while also failing to accurately perform basic math is basically bluesky.txt

These 'gender reveals' are getting out of control!

Let's talk about why this bolete mushroom is changing color on exposure to air.

I can't be certain of the species, but there are a number of "bluing boletes" including Gyroporus cyanescens. Some are edible, others at least mildly toxic.

Again Will is a left wing civil rights lawyer whose worst sin is stubbornness and whose greatest virtue is also stubbornness. That he has been transformed into a demon in the minds of losers is evidence of how pathetically inadequate their vision of actual wickedness is.

Abolish DHS. If you can imagine a world before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you can imagine a world without the Department of Homeland Security. My latest at @startribune.com. (gift link)
Perry: Abolish ICE? How about DHS altogether.
"We have models for how to structure federal immigration oversight that doesn't rely on an unaccountable masked secret police force running rampant in our streets," David M. Perry writes.

Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”
House Democrat Says Abolishing ICE Isn’t Enough — DHS Must Go, Too
“The problem isn’t ‘training.’ DHS was built to violate our rights,” said Rep. Delia C. Ramirez.

I think the key word here is "and": So-called "AI" systems don't do what is advertised AND involve labor exploitation AND perpetuate biases AND are environmentally ruinous.

I don't think we should drop the environmental angle.
I think this highlights two things for folks who hate AI and want to stop massive data center expansion

First: when we're talking about AI, it's a mistake to lead with the environmental impact.

It's a bad frame, bc it implies that if the numbers were different, it would be ok. But it wouldn't.
new from me: are data centers going to wipe out water supplies? how much water does ChatGPT really use? and what's going on with that big correction in Empire of AI?

i went long on the conversation around AI and water, and how it's actually about what we want resources to be used for:

Basically "is AI worthwhile" and "do I want a data center by my house" are different questions with the same answer ("no")

Arguing effectively against them requires thinking carefully about who your audience is and what argument you're making

I think Miller is basically the one person in the administration who thinks that all elections are over forever and he's in charge, so it makes a certain amount of sense he's acting like this.
That Miller reportedly wants Noem gone because she's not being aggressive enough really shows how high on their own supply these guys are. What they're doing is already historically unpopular, and they want to do it even harder.
i am skeptical trump would actually go through with this, even if miller wants it, but i am even *more* skeptical of the idea that youngkin would take the job.
