shame we replaced all the Hunter S Thompsons with brunchlords, ivy league nepobabies, and half-cooked AI, some real fangs would come in handy right about now

we also hadn’t invented roast vegetables yet. many problems, with the recent past
this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

We're done. Just pack up the kitbag and move on to the next undiscovered country. And Andrew can go fuck himself with a rusty chainsaw, and maybe that'll teach him a thing or two.

When they say "talking to each other," they really mean: you haven't changed your mind to agree with me. Talking is happening all the time. No end to the talking in the age of social media.
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

As someone who grew up among liberal parents in a very conservative place, this rings 100% true. The coastal elites have created straw heroes out of people they would never want to know in real life.
i was especially struck by these paragraphs, which rang very true to me. libs who grew up around conservatives aren't embarrassed to be liberals--or confused about what conservatives want. there's a certain kind of elite media man, on the other hand--

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles has described teetotal Donald Trump as someone with an “alcoholic’s personality.”

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

I thought of a couple C- jokes for this but the overwhelming feeling is just how sad some peoples lives are. We live in a world full of wonders and amazing experiences and this is all some people have, this is what they think life is. They have a profound emptiness.
Nothing says getting into the festive spirit like going online to shout at some biscuits

You guys were great in Chicago! Such a fun Christmas show.
Thank you to @aimeemann.bsky.social and @tedleo.bsky.social for bringing me on tour and letting me say things like “After this, Ted has to go perform with Bawitdoowop, his Motown-style musical tribute to Kid Rock” onstage. The best and most fun Christmas shows I’ve ever been a part of!

IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

I'm in Chicago; there will literally be dancing in the streets WIH.
I do not think the right is remotely prepared for the scale of celebration that we’ll see When It Happens

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Have some integrity and drop the hero worship.
Noam Chomsky’s emails to Jeffrey Epstein display none of the fawning chatter found from, say, Larry Summers. And he does not appear to have been co-opted by whatever access Epstein provided.

What the Noam Chomsky–Jeffrey Epstein E-mails Tell Us
Chomsky has often suffered fools, knaves, and criminals too lightly. Epstein was one of them. But that doesn’t mean Chomsky was part of the “Epstein class.”
