not super surprised that Dersh is using the "actually, it's ephebophilia"/"if there's grass on the field, play ball" defense
Alan Dershowitz is one of those claiming Epstein was not a pedophile because he pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. "That’s not a pedophile." See this important response from Julia Brown, the brave reporter who broke the news on this

we kept making fun of innocent Floridians when ICE agents were the true Florida Men all along
Listen to this Border Patrol agent cry about how he's going to be DOXXED after being arrested for drunkenly barging into a woman's restroom with a loaded gun, demanding a date from the woman inside, and then punching the arresting officers.

"There are ways other than essay writing to teach students how to develop an argument. Will I discuss any of them in this article? No. But surely they must exist."
My Students Use AI. So What?
Young people are reading less and relying on bots, but there are other ways to teach people how to think.

"Meeting students where they are" doesn't mean, for me at least, slapping a cahoot on the board in an attempt to gamify learning. We know what actually works. It's figuring out what windows to more in-depth readings work for them. But they're still gonna read and write, by god.

Is Capitalist Realism better than reading an extended taster menu of Jameson, Zizek, and Deleuze? No. Can I get 19 year olds to do that consistently? No. Am I always surprised how electric they get about Capitalist Realism? Yes.

Dan says it right: this is a city, and we need leaders who will say so.
I wrote an op-ed on what I think about the fight for local neighbourhood retail (and the grousing about Badiali's) means for the urban vision of Toronto. Gift link here: www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
When even the humble corner store is impossible to open in Toronto, it’s a sign of something deeply wrong
We need to accept that Toronto is now a big city.

people underestimate how hard it is to do a good Thriller dance .big mobs of people doing Thriller often look a little weird. MJs moves are insanely crisp. he's the GOAT for a reason.

but here, the dude in the red pants is absolutely killing it. it makes the entire ensemble work.

food is not 𝙖 political issue. food is 𝙩𝙝𝙚 political issue.
We literally do disagree about this, though. Some politicians want to take food from children and some politicians don't. Pretending this "isn't political" just allows the child-starving ghouls to get away with it.

Tell people who supports the *political program* to feed children and who doesn't!

also the balkanization of social life that formed as an inevitable consequence of the consumer-based niche identities that proliferated on the internet was a good thing, right guys? made us all real normal and deeply interested in appealing to the common interest, right?

i don't watchmany sporting events these days. i used to watch MMA in thebrief years post-Butterbean and pre-fascism.

but there's something to learn from everything! I'll watch a game if people are watching it and try to learn, because I like seeing people have fun. love a good chant, too!
