It’s that time of year again! Happy #Junesploitation to all! Today’s pick, first time watch. Prepare to be Palanced, Italian style
This is maybe the best encapsulation of this particular movie I’ve ever read. Gonna rewatch it now in honor of the great Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa
SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO is exactly what it should be: cartoon cops-and-robbers action schlock with charming and magnetic leads. Sweet, rich candy that spends just the right amount of time dissolving on your tongue. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #filmsky #actionsky 🎥

It basically sucks to be in a situation where you're screaming "It can't be! We killed you!" at a shambling figure that's encroaching inexorably

Some movies I absolutely love are available at big discounts from boutique shops this weekend like TOUCH from @cine-matographe.bsky.social, MEAN GUNS from MVD, and HEAVENLY BODIES from @funcityeditions.bsky.social. Support these retailers and these movies!

I’m a Don Johnson man, but I also can’t argue this.
As is often the case, Michael Shannon gives the best supporting performance in this movie.
Time for a modern classic

While not as overtly comedic as the first two, WAKE UP DEAD MAN is still a darn good time at the movies. I’m not terribly familiar with Josh O’Connor but this very much made me want to check out more of his work. I adore Daniel Craig in Benoit Blanc mode. I want 20 more of these.

This is a great read (and also Steven Wright’s Harold is on sale for $1.99 on kindle today, which worked out very well since I bought it immediately after reading Bill’s piece)
I'll be honest with you all: it would be great if you guys could share this. Every little bit, and so forth.
There has been a change of plans in my next (now current) free to all Reading Project post. My review of Louis CK's novel INGRAM is going up on its own (with added comments on HAROLD by Steven Wright). Please read!

Using the Woody Allen font for the opening and closing credits of AFTER THE HUNT was certainly A Choice. What an unpleasant little movie.

BLACK PHONE 2 is like if a youth pastor made an Elm Street movie. Maybe the Scott Derricksonest Scott Derrickson movie. I kinda loved it.

Hi. I'm moving my newsletters from Substack to Ghost right now, and it's not cheap. I'm offering a few Lifetime Subscription packages right now, before the move, and these may seem pricey, but the ultimate savings to you are going to be profound.

This is approximately fifteen bajillion percent worth it. If you can do this, you will absolutely not regret it. A true movie nerd paradise awaits you.
I am going to sell a handful of Lifetime Subscriptions again. They're not cheap, but they're going to be an absolute steal once you see the new site. In the long run, you'll basically be stealing my newsletters from me. And there are bonuses. Cool bonuses. Seeeeeecret bonuses.

These are really fun books, y’all. Also, he wrote the novelization of Macon Blair’s TOXIC AVENGER so you know you’re in good, if goopy, hands.
Harper never tells me anything, but all 3 CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD books are currently $2.99 on kindle?

That's ~7 years of my life for less than 10 bucks. Pretty good deal!

A friend was amused I compared PSYCHO II to THE LEGO MOVIE as “films that thread an impossible needle so well that they can almost be considered dangerous because they reasonably shouldn’t exist.”

Shout out to the lady 4 seats away from me at SIGN O THE TIMES scrolling Instagram at full brightness through 3/4 of the movie. May Prince haunt you and make all of your clothes shrink to his size.

I love this right now. It’s almost like the Ewoks partying at the village at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Old Flavor Flav > Old Snoop. For sure.
This is a strong essay from Flavor Flav, a man who has changed his own perspective on guns. May his own change of heart & perspective serve as a guidepost for others.

Shoulda had as many sequels as SHAFT. Also, if you only know Nichelle Nichols from Star Trek, prepare to have your skull kicked right off your face.

Been thinking a lot about how Superman calls his pal "Gary" when Gary asks him to. No interrogations, no deliberation, if his friend decides he would like to be referred to by a different name then he's down with that. It's literally the least he can do & it's a superpower we share with him. Decency
