Is the toilet a monster? Many toddlers feel they're pooping and peeing in a creature's mouth. Parents say it's time to consider whether potty training is worth the effort.

Yeah obviously fake. The spacetime fabric would collapse if this concentration of douchebaggery ever actually occurred.
I've seen this image enough now that I feel like I should point out it's fake.

All of these amazing and creative turkey recipes going around are great and I'm happy for you all.

But I'm just going to say that an average Thanksgiving turkey cooked by moderately competent boring Americans, served with gravy and sides, is fucking delicious and I'm perfectly happy with it.
my dad makes excellent turkey and taught me how to make excellent turkey, and my mother in law also makes excellent turkey, so I really do agree that this is a Skill Issue

I’ve blown a few turkey-hating minds with the Chinese-style Woks of Life turkey recipe with five spice and a honey glaze
I’ve won many bets by people who said that they hate turkey by serving them a brined spatchcocked turkey that’s cooked right.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

The pendulum has swung too far on correcting for "overly medicalized" labor and delivery.

When I was born, my very much mainstream parents had to go to the weird hippie hospital to have a natural childbirth, have me stay in mom's room, get breastfeeding support, etc.

I’m not going to read this article to protect my mental health, but as the mother of a stillborn child I urge you to tell every pregnant person you know not to do this.

There is no pain like holding your own dead baby, and I would do just about anything to make this pain rarer than it already is.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: movie tie-in food products are, by far, America's greatest original art form.

(Jazz music is a distant second.)
Godzilla Fruit Snacks (1998-1998): A promotional tie-in for the summer blockbuster, these assorted fruit-flavored snacks came in shapes such as a tank, Zilla's eye, and the Chrysler Building. Available in three different box designs

Yeah, fascists are messy bitches who inevitably get dragged down by their own petty dramas.

Like @socialistdogmom.bsky.social is fond of pointing out, they all want to be the Hitler and that, by definition, is a one-man job.

while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.

Absolutely brutal report just out from National Association of Realtors on the utterly broken US housing market.

First-time homebuyers fell to a historic low of just 21% of all homebuyers, and their median age was an all-time high of 40 years old.

The American Dream is dead.

My pet reform to the White House press pool would be half the seats rotate to random citizens, a lottery or whatever. Questions alternate between randos and pros. Even if you get some real weirdos, that's America. But I don't doubt which group would produce more useful and newsworthy exchanges.

What I hear when I walk into the dementia unit:
Trump: "They had restrictions on water. It comes down from heaven. You want to wash your hands, or like me, you wash your hair. I lather up. There's no water. I won't mention the 3rd item in the bc I always get criticized. If you don't know what I'm talking about you shouldn't be owning a McDonalds"

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

RIP

"'you ever go to one of those "mainstream" shows, they bring joy to a lot of people with songs. if there’s a wrong way to do that then god help us all.'

I lingered on those words, and I still do. Snider was just after the joy of it all – it’s part of what made his music resonate."

Watched the movie 48 Hrs. for the first time. It was fine. Not much of a story but it brings a rough and dirty aesthetic that I enjoyed.

Walter Hill was really cooking in the mid-70s and early-80s. Seems like no one really talks about him as an auteur.or anything, but I think he's underrated.
