The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

"But what can the Democrats do, they're not in power?"

This.
There is absolutely no reason for Dems to vote for GOP nominees, to facilitate the smooth operation of Congress, nor to withhold impeachment of the President and his appointees. Do it all.
Here’s some things that can be done by a party out of power

- file impeachment articles every day in the House

- withhold unanimous consent in the senate and filibuster every nominee

- be everywhere with comms saying this is lawless and impeachable

We keep confusing the metrics for the goal.

"Dem's should run pro-life candidates in those states" is a bad take not because those states had pro-abortion wins but because being pro-life kills people. What is the point of winning if you just become the opposition?

You know what’s more entrenched psychologically than wanting this or that economic policy to make you rich? Domination and power hierarchies, and the use of violence toward their maintenance.
The tendency of left-wing thinkers to search for economic explanations for political phenomena has consistently pulled the entire left-of-center away from the obvious explanation for MAGA, which is that they find torture and domination psychologically rewarding, and are seeking that reward.

Good to see Schumer react seriously to Qatar bribing Trump.

And can't help but note that the prevailing argument for nearly 5 months was Senate Dems can't possibly cause delays like this—in response to rights violations, usurping power of the purse, you name it—so stop making unrealistic demands.
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York intends on Tuesday to put a hold on all Justice Department political appointees awaiting Senate confirmation until he gets more information on President Trump's plans to accept a luxury jet from Qatar.

If you are stopped by Trump's ICE goons, or any other kind of cops:

I INVOKE MY RIGHTS TO SILENCE AND COUNSEL AND WILL NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS WITHOUT MY ATTORNEY PRESENT.

Memorize it.

And don't let ICE in without a JUDICIAL warrant. No, administrative warrants don't count.

The failure of libertarians to pick the right side in this has exposed their whole thought system. A principled libertarian attack on limiting government overreach would be welcome at this time. Put no such thing exists. Libertarian just means selfish.

As an offshoot of this thread, let’s talk about what happens if federal, state, or local officials text, email, call, or show up at your door wanting to talk to you about what you said about the President.

I have a theme, a thesis, a throughline, a leitmotif, which is SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH.

This is a First Amendment question combined with a practical question. The answer is as follows.

First, the First Amendment protects advocating the moral and practical necessity of breaking the law in the abstract.

Being a lawyer and all, do you know what the tipping point is for it to become acceptable to openly advocate for political assassinations? Just a little curious, is all.
