“Minneapolis ward boundaries changed slightly between 2021 and 2025 due to redistricting.”

That’s a major understatement. Ward 3 shedded nearly 10k voters in redistricting. Ward 2 lost 5k voters.

If you’re reporting on voter turnout, either compare with current precinct boundaries or don’t do it.

Another discussion from last night (among those of us who didn’t grow up here): how many of the current City Council and the new one were raised in Minneapolis? Is it possible the only one is in Ward 11, which switched native @emilykoskimpls.bsky.social for native @jamisonwhiting.bsky.social?
At the @sorenwithward8.bsky.social victory party tonight, someone noted how low St. Paul’s mayoral turnout was and damn, it was: 66,000 mayoral votes compared to 147,000 in Minneapolis. Guess even-year elections can’t come soon enough over there.

My “only 22 percent of our priests’ sexual abuse victims were children and boy victims don’t count” t-shirt is raising a lot of questions about my t-shirt.
“Why does this matter to the Catholic League?” Great question, glad you asked:

The @startribune.com has interesting data/maps on 2025 Minneapolis mayor RCV rollup. However, they repeat MinnPost’s error of comparing ward turnout 2021/2025 … all wards were redistricted in 2022, so they are comparing apples to oranges … cc @jakesteinberg.com www.startribune.com/the-most-pop...

After @maggiek.bsky.social brought it up this morning, I biked to the Lyn Park neighborhood, one of the few I’ve never visited in 46 years here. It truly is a suburb in the city: big 1977-79 push to make home-owning more achievable for the black community. Promptly got my first flat of 2025 there!

I hate to give her air, but this is 2-finger-down-the-throat stuff: “Sitting under a pine tree in Los Angeles, Nuzzi gave up the pretense of trying to explain the unexplainable and reached for a joke for the people who simply could not fathom what came over her.

‘Maybe it was the vaccines.’”

I see Ryan Winkler is running for @repfreiberg.bsky.social’s Minnesota House 43b seat as Mike runs for the Senate. The Golden Vally-centered district somewhat overlaps Winkler’s old 46A seat. Anyway … anyone else running in primary?

What New York Times calls “a light resume” for Seattle’s new progressive mayor turns out to be leading successful campaigns that expanded mass transit & housing & helped the city balance its budget. What a lightweight! www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/u...

Doing some election analysis on some estimated precinct demographics and it looks like the strongest correlate of Frey vote share is median household income (0.75) [1 is perfect correlation]. Strongest negative correlation is between Frey vote share and share taking transit to work (-0.65)

The thing about the U is, however hard it’s sucking right now, if Walz faceplants the next administration will be phantasmagorically worse. I hate having the fate of my state lashed to a weakened third-term attempt but here we are.

I say this as a guy who had *seven* damn lawn signs but it’s pleasure walking around the city again without seeing (most of) ‘em. It was like neighbors writing out their Facebook posts and jamming them in their yard. I’d rather live in ignorance of their inner monologues.
