I mostly discussed/argued about Star Wars (preferring to play defense) at the old place; probably will do the same here (hopefully finding fewer bad-faith disagreements).

I also draw things and work in a comic book store.

this dumb shit is what i mean when i say this is a purely aesthetic “politics.” yeah man, why can’t we have a fusion of cosmopolitan social democracy and revanchist hierarchies of wealth and privilege? tough question.
Matt Stoller: “..Trump & Mamdani defeated establishment in their own way, representing hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different. If those sides cd come together.. that would be a sea change in how we organize our political economy”.

Monopoly Round-Up: Why the Establishment Freaked Out Over a Mamdani-Trump Press Conference
Meta wins its antitrust case, there are now two fire truck antitrust claims, the stock market got wobbly, and Larry Summers was exiled from the establishment, at least for now.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

Heartbroken by the news of the passing of Drew Struzan.

I distinctly remember when I first noticed that the same signature was on the posters for both Temple of Doom and Back to the Future, and I've been obsessed with his work ever since.

His rendering technique is often mimicked, but never quite—

RIP to Drew Struzan, the greatest movie poster artist of all time. I was fortunate enough to edit the documentary about him and even luckier to get to know Drew, “The Man Behind the Poster.” A true artist, his images brought us to the movies and will stay in our hearts forever.

Maybe we don't use "slop" to describe anything we just happen to not like.

It lessens the impact for when the term is actually appropriately used, and it's not just being critical of the show, it insults anyone who does happen to like it (you're effectively calling them pigs who will eat anything).
Big IP slop is one of the pipelines to genAI slop; denaturing the vitality of the arts for corporate interests. Good to see an actor speak about it honestly.

This is the core proposition & selling point for reactionary thought: not that they are better, but simply that *everyone* is corrupt, everyone is a crook, everyone's just out for themselves, so you might as well get yours. That is the molten core of right-wing thought everywhere.
Sen. John Kennedy defends Emil Bove: "If everyone is corrupt, nobody is corrupt."

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

it’s absurd that NYT forced him to delete these skeets, which … convey the factual information that Zohran Mamdani is, in fact, a man of South Asian descent who was born and raised in Africa, and that the pseudonymous source of the hacked material is a white supremacist eugenicist.

honestly does seem like the basic dynamic in american politics right now is that a critical number of voters treat Democrats like their (nagging) mom or their (bitch) wife and treat Republicans like the “cool” dad or husband who is at best a deadbeat

Marvel could pay for my healthcare for the rest of my life for a fraction of 1% of profit from Spider-Man Noir, a character whose original comics I edited. For Peter David to die in medical debt, co-creator of Spider-Man 2099 and writer of countless seminal Hulk and X-Factor comics—that's a disgrace

@infinata.bsky.social Did I hear (or read) you (or someone who would know) say that the Church of the Force was a concept that came out of Underworld development? Or am I just imagining that?

The same amount of life-defining events (more really) happen to Luke in ANH as happen to Han in SOLO.

Imagine seeing ESB first and then looking at all the things in ANH as a checklist of explanations (“Wait, that ghost guy is ALIVE?! And now we’re gonna see how he DIES?! So much for that mystery.”)
What I mostly disliked about SOLO was that it was about how virtually everything that we know about him in STAR WARS happened in a single adventure.

That doesn’t feel like a life, it feels like a checklist. Slow down, focus on character. You’re already telling serial fiction. Give it some room.
