Maker of many things - art, puzzles, horrible puns, etc.
With Bugs' tail poking out from the backwards jeans' fly, making that style more functional on Bugs than it was on Kriss Kross.

Or maybe I was making that bit up, but I certainly remember thinking about it at the time.
I remember being insanely jealous of my cousin's oversized teeshirt featuring Bugs Bunny and the Tazmanian Devil in backwards baggy jeans and sports jerseys, a la Kriss Kross

ICYMI, Starbs boycott is still on
Friendly reminder that Starbucks baristas are still on strike and still asking you to support them by not patronizing *any* Starbucks in the US.

Try a new place! Get a home coffeemaker and a thermos that will pay for themselves with all the Starbucks you won't be buying! Don't cross picket lines!
Add this to your new years resolution: No Contract, No Coffee!

Pledge now to stop buying Starbucks in 2026 until the company stops union busting and settles a fair contract!

I hate these charts so much because they imply chatgpt is comparable to the internet or phones

You could create the same graphic for full screen pop-up advertising on websites and make them look like ultra-rapid technology adoption when really they were just baked unavoidably into the internet

Ok team, we can bring these words back into usage! 💪

Overmorrow = the day after tomorrow

Ereyesterday = the day before yesterday

We ahould have been using such excellent words ereyesterday, but if we start now we’ll be glad overmorrow!
You can be the change you want to see in the English language!
So long as we get ereyesterday back too! Words need their inverses!

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write."

A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption.

B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

An extremely drunk woman in Las Vegas going "oooh" and trying to lift up my kilt.

I stepped back and said "No!" and she responded "...no?" in what sounded like genuine confusion before her friend ushered her away.

I was within about thirty feet of Bernie Sanders at a rally but he left by a different route.
Please quote this with the time you didn’t interact with someone famous - eg one time I was in Cardiff the same weekend as Willem Dafoe (but I didn’t see him or even know he was there until he appeared on the telly later)
Please quote this with your major interactions with massive celebrities. eg “I was married to the pope for fifteen years”

Do I have this right?

A Wall Street financier is shaping opinions for a newspaper owned by hedge funds to manufacture consent for technology built on intellectual theft to consolidate wealth and power into the hands of narcissistic billionaires while pouring gasoline on a climate crisis? 🤔

This past weekend we had dinner with our friend who is a Sbux union leader. She clued me into 3 things.

Starbucks has not signed a contract with the workers for 4 years.

Starbucks has more union violations than any other company in the US.

Shareholders are demanding they settle.

Keep boycotting.

Starbucks spent years trying to become an inescapable storefront on the streets of New York, Los Angeles and other big cities in America. Now that’s coming to an end. https://cnn.it/4q8AJ6D

I've probably had a much larger impact on the Internet in my day job despite being one person out of hundreds of thousands at my company. 🤷‍♀️

Conventions, if you use AI do not be surprised if creators turn down your invitations to be guests or even to be on panels.

Do not use tools trained on stolen work from creators and then tell them you want to honor or uplift them - that’s not what you’re doing. You’re stealing and being lazy.

These technologies can and are being used to create lifelike images and videos of actual living women and girls. For what I think are pretty obvious gendered civil rights reasons, it needs to be a recognized civil cause of action to create an AI image or avatar of a woman without her consent.
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

Frankly, if the existence of these creepy "AI companions" could ensure that abusive men never hurt actual people again, I'd consider it a good use of the technology.

But that's not what's going to happen. They're going to transfer their expectations to the real people their companions are based on.
They're enabling creepy lonely men to create submissive "AI companions" that can be modeled on whatever real-life woman they're obsessed with and made to do whatever they want and, Jesus Christ, I need to wash my hands just typing that.

My favorite thing about Frog and Toad is that it is the story of two men deeply and obviously in love with one another, drawn as a tribute to his lifelong partner by a gay man long before their relationship was socially sanctioned.
Then Frog and Toad went out onto the front porch to wait for the mail.

They sat there, feeling happy together.

Hello repro writers from the mid to late 20 teens - I just discovered Cosmopolitan at some point pulled almost every politics/repro story from the 5 years I wrote for them offline (except two, which they put under someone else's name and gave me "additional reporting" which it very much was not)
